MS Dhoni doing absolutely fine, why are people pointing him out: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli vehemently defended MS Dhoni whose place in the team has come under scrutiny following his recent performances with the bat.

Virat Kohlivehemently defended MS Dhoni stating that the former Indian captain remains fit despite his age and that he remains one of the most important members of the team. “First, I don’t understand why are people only pointing him out, I’m not able to understand this,” said the Indian skipper in apress conference after India’s third T20I against New Zealand. Kohli said that the main reason for Dhoni’s place in the Indian side being questioned is because of his age. “If I fail three times, no one is going to point fingers at me because I’m not over 35,” he said.

MS Dhoni’s role came under scrutiny once again after India’s loss to New Zealand in the second T20I. India had lost too many wickets while chasing a target of 197 and Dhoni struggled to get going, resulting in the run rate climbing. Kohli, though, said that any player batting in that position would have been unable to get runs early in their innings. “You have to understand, the position in which he comes out to bat, even Hardik [Pandya] could not score in that game,” Kohli said.

“Then why are we only pointing out one man? Hardik also got out in the last T20 that we played in Rajkot. We are conveniently targeting only one man which is not fair. We also have to look at the fact that by the time he comes in, either the run rate is already eight-and-a-half or nine-and-a-half and the wicket is also not the same when the new ball is bowled,” said Kohli.

“Also, the batsmen who are set from the top, they find it easier to strike the ball straightaway compared to the guys who come lower down the order,” said Kohli, “And the kind of wicket that we have played on, the wear and tear has been much more in the latter half. You have to assess everything.”

Kohli pointed out that Dhoni remains fit and that he is contributing to the team. “The guy is fit, he is passing all the fitness tests, he is contributing to the team in every way possible, tactically on the field, with the bat. If you look at the series against Sri Lanka and Australia, he did really well and in this series he hasn’t got much time to bat,” said the Indian captain, “As team management and players, we understand the situations in which he goes out to bat.

We don’t get emotional and excited by the opinions of people who are looking at things from a different point of view. If you are playing, you know how the wicket is and what the situation is like. So, I think he is doing absolutely fine. He understands his game, he understands his role, but it doesn’t come off every time. He hit a six in Delhi and it was shown five times in the post-match show. Everyone got really happy.

And suddenly he doesn’t score in one game and we are after his life. I think people need to be a bit more patient. He’s a guy who understands various cricketers. He’s a very smart guy. He understands where he stands with his body, with his game. So I don’t think anyone else has the right to decide that for him.”

Govt may review monthly GST return filing process

Under the GST regime rolled out from July 1, the government has allowed businesses to file initial returns and pay taxes by filing up form GSTR-3B by the 20th day of next month.

The government may review the requirement of filing at least three returns every month under the GST regime with a view to easing compliance burden of taxpayers, officials said. Presently, businesses have to file returns in GSTR-1, GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 forms for every month. These forms detail outward supplies of taxable goods and/or services, inward supplies for claiming input tax credit and monthly return.

The review follows businesses complaining problems in matching invoices while filing July returns. “There will be a review of the norms to file GSTR-1, 2 and 3. Businesses have complained of trouble in invoice matching while filing GSTR-2. It would be reviewed whether matching of invoices would be pursued in the coming months,” a senior government official told PTI.

Under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime rolled out from July 1, the government has allowed businesses to file initial returns and pay taxes by filing up form GSTR-3B by the 20th day of next month.
This form is only for period July to December and would be discontinued from January.
The official said the GST Council, headed by Union Finance MinisterArun Jaitley and comprising representatives of all states, may also consider extension of GSTR-3B filing beyond December as the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) feel that the filing the initial returns has stabilised and businesses have got used to the system.

The first three months of GST roll out have earned a cumulative revenue, including Integrated GST collections, of around Rs 2.78 lakh crore to the exchequer.
The final GST returns are to be filed by submitting form GSTR-1, 2 and 3. Businesses have filed GSTR-1 return, which is the sales returns, for the month of July and over 47 lakh business have filed it.
These sales returns will have to be matched with the purchase invoice to be filed in GSTR-2. So far over 21 lakh businesses have filed July GSTR-2 and the due date for filing has been extended by a month to November 30.
After matching of GSTR-1 and 2, the businesses will have to file July GSTR-3, the last date for which is December 11.
“Invoice matching has been an issue and there is a thinking that we may give some time to settle down. In the meanwhile we can probably extend GSTR-3B beyond December,” the official added.
The official further said that a decision to this effect may be taken next month.
A group of ministers headed by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had last week suggested that all taxpayers should be allowed to file returns quarterly, akin to those businesses whose monthly turnover is up to Rs 1.5 crore.
The official further said that invoice matching is important in the GST regime to check tax evasion and hence the government wanted every taxpayer to understand how the system works and get used to it gradually.

IT hiring loses pace as firms keep an eye on costs, automation

Analysts point out IT companies are responding to a more challenging environment, in which the momentum has slowed, by increasing utilisation.

Employee additions at the country’s top IT firms are slowing with the quarterly increase in headcounts having come off to below 5 per cent year-on-year at the end of September. Two years back, double-digit growth in hiring was par for the course but the pace of hiring has slackened considerably.

The September quarter saw the hiring increase at the slowest in the last four fiscals and at the end of it, the top three firms collectively had about 7,51,412 people on their rolls compared with 7,31,139 in September 2016.

Tough market conditions, rising costs and an eye on automation seem to have prompted IT majors, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro, to rein in their workforces. Infosys CFO MD Ranganath said recently the relatively slow hiring at his firm was due to a combination of higher utilisation and improvement in productivity. “Our revenues have grown faster than the headcount addition in the last two or three quarters. If we consider the first half of 2017, we have added about 8,000 employees less,” Ranganath said.

At TCS, Ajoy Mukherjee, EVP& global head, (human resources), indicated his firm would hire fewer trainees or freshers this year. “The kind of campus hiring that we are doing this year will be very similar to what we did last year,” Mukherjee said.
In 2016-17, the industry had taken on 1.7 lakh people, taking the tally of employees to 3.8 million in March 2017. The Nasscom has forecast the sector will create about 20-38 per cent fewer jobs in the current year or 1.3-1.5 lakh new jobs, including freshers and lateral hires.
Wipro HR head Saurabh Govil had observed recently that given the non-linearity of platforms and digital work and automation which his company was doing, revenues would probably grow faster than the headcount.

Analysts point out IT companies are responding to a more challenging environment, in which the momentum has slowed, by increasing utilisation.
Utilisation levels for the top-tier firms have traditionally been around the 70 per cent level but in recent times this has consistently stayed above 80 per cent. In effect, the number of IT employees on the bench is also lower. TCS’ employee headcount at the end of Q2FY18 was only slightly higher at 3,89,213; up 4.7 per cent. In Q2FY17, employee additions had clocked a robust 10.6 per cent. Infosys’ employee strength at the end of Q2FY18 was 1,98,440, flat compared with 1,99,829 in Q2FY17. In comparison, the IT major saw a 6.3 per cent rise in employee addition in Q2FY17. Wipro ended Q2FY18 with an employee strength of 1,63,759, up 2.4 per cent over 1,59,791 in Q2FY17. FE

Reliance Jio, the latest entrant in the country's telecom sector, hiked its tariffs recently. Analysts said Jio's prices remain low, although they welcomed the hikes as a good initial signal of more pricing discipline, news agency Reuters reported. "Jio's announcement (of price hike) was a huge relief for all incumbent players as there is a feeling that the worst of pricing is behind them. My guess is that from now on, they will focus on quality of network to get more customers, " said Satish Betadpur, director of research at William O'Neil & Co.

19-year-old preparing for UPSC gang-raped in Bhopal for 3 hours

BHOPAL: For three hours, a 19-year-old college girl was tied up and raped by four men, who took breaks for tea and gutka before returning to assault her repeatedly under a bridge in the heart of Bhopal.

Click Here To For All Suicide News

What happened after the rapists let her go was no less horrifying. Three police stations refused to take her complaint — although both her parents are in police — and a GRP officer mocked her for "coming with a filmy story".

The parents — her father is a sub inspector with a security force and mother with the CID — and the girl nabbed two of the suspects in a dramatic daylight scuffle on Wednesday. Only then was a complaint registered. An embarrassed police force suspended SI R N Tekam of MP Nagar police station on Thursday for not accepting her complaint.

The horrifying gang rape has shaken Bhopal, where people take pride in their city as one of the safest for women. The spot where she was raped has some of the busiest roads and rail tracks — the bustling Habibganj station is just 100 metres away, and an RPF post just 50m away. Thousands of cars drove past just 100 metres from where she was stripped, tied up and raped repeatedly. Yet, no one heard a thing.

The survivor shuttles between her hometown, about an hour's journey from Bhopal, every day as she is preparing for the UPSC exams.

On Tuesday evening, the complaint notes, after her coaching classes got over, she began her short walk along the tracks towards Habibganj station. Around 7pm, a man now identified as Golu Bihari Chadhar — out on bail after being charged in her infant daughter's murder — grabbed her by her hand. She kicked out and felled him. Angry, Golu called out to an accomplice, Amar Ghuntu, and the two of them started dragging her towards a nullah. The girl kept fighting and hit both of them with a stone.

Furious, they hit her with a stone as well, tied her up, and raped her. After around 15 minutes, Golu went to fetch gutka and cigarettes, the complaint notes, leaving Amar to watch over her. Amar and Golu are brothers-in-law and married to two sisters.

The girl asked for some clothes because hers had been torn to shreds. Golu went back and got some clothes, perhaps of his wife's — and also brought along two others to join in. She was raped again, this time Rajesh and Ramesh allegedly joining the other two. The horror went on till 10pm when the brothers-inlaw finally allowed her to dress and leave — but after she had handed over her earrings, watch and phone.

She somehow walked to the RPF outpost at Habibganj station and called her parents. Her father was already looking for her. Seeing how traumatised she was, he took her home. The next morning, the family went to MP Nagar to file a complaint. An SI went to check the spot and told them to go to Habibganj police station, staff from where redirected them to Habibganj GRP. It is at the third stop that an officer mocked the girl, saying she was "making up a filmy story".

"While coming from Habibganj, my daughter saw two of the rapists loitering in front of Mansarowar Complex, which is around 500 metres from the spot of crime," said the mother. The cop parents and the feisty survivor chased down Amar and Golu and nabbed them. "We handed over the duo to GRP Habibganj," said the mother.

"It's one of the worst experiences of my life. If I, as a policewoman, have to face such problems in filing my daughter'sgangrape complaint, I can't imagine what a common man goes through," said the mother. "SHO GRP Mohit Saxena and SI Uikey misbehaved with us and said they wouldn't file any case. SI Uikey alleged that we were making a 'false filmy complaint',"

she added.
