Vodafone Idea Loses Over 6.5 Million Subscribers in November: COAI

Click Here For All Aapkasamachar

HIGHLIGHTS

Airtel added just over 100,000 subscribers in the month

Vodafone Idea lost subscribers for the third consecutive month

UP (East) remained the biggest telecom circle with 85.16 million users

Vodafone Idea has continued its losing streak for the third consecutive month and the telecom operator lost over 6.5 million subscribers in November, revealed the latest monthly subscriber figure report released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The report also revealed that Airtel added just over 100,000 subscribers during the same period. The total number of mobile subscribers in the country stood at 1.02 billion in November 2018, however since the monthly figure for Reliance Jio was not available for the month, the total subscriber numbers don't account for any subscribers lost or added by the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator. Instead, COAI uses the October figure provided by TRAI. COAI also doesn't capture figures of BSNL, MTNL, RCom, and Tata.
Among the individual telecom operators, Vodafone Idea is reigning at the top with a total base of 421.08 million subscribers, of which Vodafone accounted for 215.99 million and Idea for 205.09 million. Airtel claimed the second spot with 314.76 million subscribers and Jio was placed at the third spot with 262.75 million.
Even though Vodafone Idea is the top telecom operator in the country right now, the continuous loss of subscribers by the company would be worrying for the executives. August was the last month when Vodafone has added any subscribers. According to the COAI data, Vodafone had added 1.14 million subscribers in August.
Here is a quick look at the monthly subscriber numbers for Vodafone Idea, Airtel and Jio since July this year, as per COAI data.

As we mentioned, it is important to note here that COAI doesn't report the subscriber numbers for BSNL, MTNL, Tata, and RCom. As per the subscriber data shared by TRAI on January 3, the state-run BSNL accounted for a total of 113.4 million subscribers in October 2018, whereas MTNL had 3.48 million and RCom was left with mere 24,182 users.
In terms of the individual telecom circles, UP (East) continues to be the biggest circle based on total subscribers with 85.16 million subscribers.

The WhatsApp for iPhone update also enhances the voice messaging feature that will now continue to play your voice messages if you switch to another app or turn your screen off.

You can avail the changes by downloading the updated (v2.18.40) version of the app for iPhone; it works with devices running iOS 7.0 and later. To recall, last week, the app received a new Android beta version that added a feature to notify contacts on shifting to a new number.

As for the other change that recently made its way to the platform, the new WhatsApp Change Number feature is rolling out through a server-side update to WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.97.
We were able to spot the same at the time of filing the story on one of our Android devices. The new addition allows you to notify all contacts, contacts that you've chats with, or any particular contacts you wish, about your having switched from your old number to a new one.
To begin with the new Change Number feature, go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change number. After that, tap the Next button from the top-right corner, enter your old and new phone numbers, tap the Next button again, and then enable the Notify my contacts option. This brings options, namely All contacts, Contacts I have chats with, and Custom. Regardless of selecting any of the three options, all your groups you are part of will be notified. The feature also details the number of contacts who will be notified about your new number

BSNL is offering unlimited free data with 1GB limit per day

Valid across all circles, except J&K, NE, and Assam

All local, STD and roaming calls are free for 181 days

To take in Jio's run in the telecom market, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has introduced a new 'Maximum' prepaid plan for its users in India. Under this offer, BSNLprepaid customers will get unlimited data access for 365 days and unlimited voice calls (Local and STD) for 181 days at Rs. 999. The new BSNL prepaid plan is available in all circles except North-East India, Jammu and Kashmir, and Assam. This is the latest effort by BSNL - which started its 4G services in January - to keep users from switching to Jio, Airtel, Vodafone and the likes.

As per a tweet by BSNL, citing a TelecomTalk report, the new plan offers free and unlimited data along with free voice call benefits and SMS messages. The BSNL Maximum plan comes with a validity period of 365 days, that is 1 year. However, there are a few changes after the initial 181 days of recharge.

When it comes to the data benefits, BSNL is offering unlimited free data with a 1GB limit per day. Following this, users will get Internet data at 40kbps speeds. In terms of voice calling, all local, STD and roaming calls are free excluding the Delhi and Mumbai circles. Meanwhile, voice calls in Mumbai and Delhi will be priced at 60 paise per minute, under this offer. The tariff, however, changes after 181 days, after which all on-net and off-net calls (home and roaming) will be charged at 60 paise per min.

In the first 181 days, BSNL prepaid subscribers will be able to avail 100 free SMS messages per day. However, after this, users will be charged 25 paise per local SMS and 35 paise per national SMS.

BSNL's Rs. 999 prepaid pack offer counters similarly priced tariffs from Reliance Jio and Airtel. While Jio offers 60GB of 4G data, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS per day for a validity period of 90 days, Airtel offers unlimited voice calls including national roaming calls, 100 local and STD SMS per day, 60GB of data on all handsets for 90 days.

Meanwhile, BSNL had recently introduced another offer for prepaid subscribers, priced at Rs. 1,099. Under the offer, BSNL prepaid customers get unlimited data access, unlimited voice calls (home and roaming), 100 SMSes per day, and free access to Personalised Ring Back Tone (PRBT) with a validity of 84 days.

WhatsApp Payments UPI-based feature now live in India: How to send your first payment on WhatsApp

WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging service across globe, has started rolling out the UPI-based Payments feature in India which will mean that you will be able to send money to your friends and family right from WhatsApp. WhatsApp is already popular with Indian users across different age groups who love to send "good morning" texts to kick start the day and adding the Payments feature just makes more sense for the messaging app.

The rollout of WhatsApp Payments has started from India which means that the company is looking to end the dominance of apps like Paytm, Google Tez, and other digital wallet app that have been around for a long time. Also read: 10 secret WhatsApp tricks you (probably) didn't know about

With over 200 million monthly active users in India, WhatsApp shouldn't face any trouble bringing its large user base to get a taste of Payments feature. Facebook's move to bring Payments feature to India first on WhatsApp clearly seems a way to cash in on the digital payment in its early days. The WhatsApp Payments feature was being tested as a beta feature with select users but now more users have started receiving the feature. Also read: WhatsApp UPI-based payments feature rolling out in India

It was no secret as WhatsApp was reportedly in talks with top Indian banks for months to integrate Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Unlike previously believed, the WhatsApp Payments feature is being rolled out to both Android as well as iOS users simultaneously.

How to send money using WhatsApp payments

The WhatsApp Payments will be limited to peer-to-peer payment and does not offer merchant payment, as of now.

Before getting started with WhatsApp Payments, users will have to note few things like:

For WhatsApp Payments to work, both sender and receiver should be running the latest WhatsApp version as well as have WhatsApp Payments option enabled.

Another important fact is WhatsApp number should be same as your mobile number linked to your bank account with UPI option support as well.

WhatsApp users who have already received the feature can head to Settings > Payments to start setting up the Payments option. As of now, WhatsApp Payments is working on an invite basis which means those who have received the Payments feature can activate for others by choosing the option from chat.

On tapping the option, users will be welcomed by a new message saying "Send and receive money securely with UPI" and users need to tap on "Accept and Continue" to start accepting the WhatsApp Payments. The users will be also offered the Terms and Privacy policy and the payment provider's terms and privacy policy which they can read or just skip to the next option.

Users then will have to verify their phone numbers by choosing "Verify via SMS" and that can be done by tapping on the green coloured send button on the next screen to send a verification SMS from your phone. It's worth noting that the SMS charges will be applicable.

Once the WhatsApp number has been configured then add your bank from a vast list of over 70 banks. WhatsApp has managed to get all major banks for its new WhatsApp Payments feature on-board which include Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Yes Bank, Airtel Payments Bank, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, and more.

If you already have UPI option enabled with your bank then you will need to verify with SMS.

New users need not to worry as WhatsApp Payments offers an option to create a UPI accountwith a pin (much like your ATM pin) for authenticating the payments. This can be done in less than 10 minutes by just following the instructions.

Users need to remember that the WhatsApp number and the mobile number registered with your bank should be same or else you need to get it linked with your bank before proceeding with WhatsApp Payments.

Now, how to send money to a friend using Payments feature on WhatsApp. To start sending money, tap on menu in any chat to access Payment option apart from other options like send photo, video, file, contact, or location.

Choose a WhatsApp contact you want to send your first payment, select the bank account and amount > Enter the UPI Pin > Money sent. One of the biggest highlight of the WhatsApp Payment is it uses UPI to send money in no time.

Once the transaction is complete, WhatsApp also notifies the user about the money sent to a contact. You can also keep a track of Payments from within the app, by using the Payment history option in WhatsApp.

Try the methods above and let us know in the comments section whether the payment went through or not.

Join Our Whatsapp Group To Get Latest News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WhhatsApp in recent times has become like a box of chocolates. You don't know what next is coming out of it. There is small or big change every time you update the app from Play Store. The chat app has come a long way from being just a simple messaging app to becoming so much more. You can today make calls, share location, share files, set Status and do so much more from just one app. WhatsApp Payments is gong to be next one big leap for the company.
The app has 1.5 billion monthly users today and it is all because of the frequent updates pushed by the chat company to continue making the app more engaging. And the Facebook-owned chat app does not want to stop here. The company is planning on to bring some more big updates to its app. There are news all over that the company is bringing features like Payments service, groups calls, private replies and similar more big changes to the app. Many beta users have even started receiving some of these features.
So what are these top most-awaited features of WhatsApp and what will change after these feature go live. Take a look:
1. WhatsApp Payments feature: Paytm, Google Tez and government's own BHIM payment service will soon have a new competition- WhatsApp Payments. WhatsApp plans to go beyond a chat app, it is now aiming to also become a payment service provider.
WhatsApp Payments is a UPI-based payment service from chat app. Many Android and iOS beta users in India have even received the feature on their phones. According to a screenshot shared by WaBetaInfo, the feature will show up inside the WhatsApp Settings. You will be able to make quick bank to bank money transfers without any extra charges via this feature. WhatsApp Payments goes at the top of WhatsApp's most awaited feature list.
2. WhatsApp Group calls: Introducing group calls to WhatsApp's voice and video calls is going to be the second big feature from the app. WaBetaInfo reports that chat app is working to bring group calls to its voice and video calls. Currently, you can make voice or video calls to only contact at a time. This feature will allow you to add more people to voice calls just like the conference calls and Messenger-like group video calls.
3. Shake to report: Last year we saw several blackouts of WhatsApp. The chat app has finally realised the problem and is working on a Shake to report feature. The feature is yet to roll out.
4. Private replies: In future you will not have to leave a group chat to reply someone privately. The chat app is working on this feature. It will allow you to reply to someone privately in a group chat. However, the admin of the group will be able to see it.
5. Tap to unblock: Small but a significant feature-- Tap to unblock -- will allow you to unblock a blocked contact by simply tapping on it. The current process to unblock a contact requires you to go inside the contact and then tap on unblock option.
Jio Cashback Offer: Benefits of Up to Rs. 799 on Recharge of Rs. 398 and Above
The offer is only for Jio prepaid users with Prime subscription
Jio customers will get recharge vouchers worth Rs. 400
Wallet cashback of up to Rs. 399 will also be provided
Jio cashbacks don't seem to be ending any time soon as the company has launched another such offer for its Prime customers. The new Jio offer is applicable on recharges of Rs. 398 and above, and will give benefits of up to Rs. 799 in the form of recharge vouchers and wallet cashbacks. Compared to the last Jio cashback offer, the current one gives benefits worth Rs. 99 more, with an increase in the maximum wallet cashback from Rs. 300 to Rs. 399. The ongoing offer will run till Thursday, February 15, 2018.
As with the previous Jio cashback offers, customers will get eight vouchers of Rs. 50 on recharges of Rs. 398, totalling benefits of Rs. 400. The vouchers can be used to deduct Rs. 50 from the recharge value while purchasing a prepaid pack in the future.
The remaining Rs. 399 will be provided to the consumer in the form of wallet cashbacks. Customers will get cashbacks of varying value from MobiKwik, Paytm, Amazon Pay, PhonePe, Freecharge, and Axis Pay. Those using MobiKwik wallet to make the payment for the recharge of Rs. 398 or above will also get a hotel voucher of up to Rs. 2,500, while Paytm users will receive 50 percent cashback on first time movie ticket booking (up to Rs. 150).
Both the vouchers and the wallet cashback can be redeemed immediately. As was the case with the last cashback offer, Jio is not giving any discounts on online shopping this time around either. The online shopping discounts offered by the company accounted for a huge chunk of the benefits it provided the customer in the December cashback offer, before they were discontinued.
This is the fourth consecutive Jio cashback offer for prepaid users since October, and comes soon after the company raises the daily data allocations on recharge packs between Rs. 149 and Rs. 799 by up to 2GB per day.
