Samsung Galaxy S9 design and benchmark leaks give closest look at the phone yet

Galaxy S9 will come in three variants, including a mini version but with same design and dual cameras

Samsung is preparing its next generation of flagships for launch in 2018, and looks like we already have some photos and numbers to match it up with the rivals.
As reported earlier, Samsung is readying three different models of the Galaxy S9 this time-the Galaxy S9, the Galaxy S9+ and the Galaxy S9 Mini. Latest leaks spotted by Forbes reveal that the mini variant will have a 5-inch display, while the other two will be similar to their 2017 counterparts.
All three models will come with Samsung dual-edge-curved 'Infinity' display, unlike previous mini models styled differently than flagship variants. This could make Samsung's foothold stronger in the mid-range segment.

The leak also claims the Galaxy S9 will come with dual cameras with a BABR coating ('broad-band anti-reflection') on the lenses. DSLR lenses use BABR coating to limit ghosting and reflection. The company might also reposition the fingerprint scanner on the device.
A report from AndroidHeadlines also reveals that the phone will use heat pipes for dissipating heat, a setup that has been used on Galaxy S-series and Note series since the 2016.

The phone model SM-G960F, believed to be the global version of the upcoming Galaxy S9, has been spotted on a Geekbench listing as well. The phone scores 2680 points in the single core test which far exceeds that of the Pixel 2 (1685 points). But the iPhone X (4218 points) still remains that king, and so do the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus as they are powered by the same A11 Bionic chip from Apple.
The Geekbench listing also reveals that the phone will be powered by Samsung next generation chipset, the Exynos 9 series 9810 with 4GB RAM. Samsung recently announced Exynos 9810 chipset that is built on 2nd generation 10nm process. It also packs 3rd-generation custom CPU cores and an upgraded GPU, possibly Mali G72. It also supports Gigabit speeds on LTE (something that the new iPhones don't, as they miss out on the required antennas!)

Samsung may also launch variants of Galaxy S9 with Snapdragon 845. A recent report confirmed that Qualcomm will sell the entire first batch of Snapdragon 845 to Samsung for its Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones. Like last year, Galaxy phones will be the first to run the top end chip.
The listing also mentions that the phone will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The Pixels and only a couple of other smartphone run the Android 8.0 Oreo right now as many new phones were launched with the Android 7 Nougat with a promise of an upgrade, OnePlus 5T being the most popular example.
Samsung may announce the Galaxy S9 and S9+ at the upcoming MWC like last year -- which is to start on February 26 and continue until March 1 2018 in Barcelona. Samsung is reportedly planning to schedule the Galaxy S9 and S9+ launch event for February 25.

Samsung Galaxy S7 At Rs 24,990 is a better deal than OnePlus 5, Honor 8 Pro

<<Join Our >> :- Whatsapp Group To Get Latest News  Click Here

Ecommerce giant Flipkart is selling the Samsung Galaxy S7 for Rs 29,990 as a part of its Samsung Mobiles Fest promotional sales event. The sale, which lasts from November 6 to 8, brings with it discounts on a number of Samsung smartphones including the Galaxy On Max and the Galaxy C9 Pro but all the other offers pale in comparison to this one on the Galaxy S7.

Not only is Flipkart offering a discount of Rs 16,010, they are offering an extra Rs 5,000 over the regular exchange price. What this basically means is that you can get the Galaxy S7 for Rs 24,990 plus the value of your old smartphone - making it a steal deal overall. With the addition of the extra 5,000 rupees, you can actually get extremely lucrative prices for old smartphones which otherwise hold almost no value whatsoever.

In some cases, the amount Flipkart is offering for a used phone under this buyback offer is actually more than the price of a new unit of the same. For example: Flipkart is offering Rs 7,500 for a used Samsung Galaxy J2, a new unit of which is being sold for Rs 6,999 on the e-commerce site. You will never get a better opportunity to not get rid of your old dusty smartphones and buy a shiny new Galaxy S7 in its place.

The Galaxy S7 is no old stooge either. In-spite of being more than a year old, it is still a mighty force to be reckoned with in the smartphone world. The only thing that is dated about the phone is its launch date - the smartphone has truly aged very well and at the price it is being sold for currently, it is a stellar buy.

The S7 comes with a pixel perfect display that is sharp and vibrant, a rear camera that is still one of the best in the Android world, a gorgeous glass and metal design, great performance and the highest standard of dust and water resistance in the smartphone arena (IP68). It is also relatively compact in a day and age of mammoth phablets thanks to its 5.1-inch display and comes with the convenience of wireless charging.

For all the specification junkies out there, here are all the numbers - the Galaxy S7 is powered by the Exynos 8890 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and a 3,000mah battery. It comes with a 5.1 Quad HD display Super AMOLED display, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card and 4G VoLTE support. On the imaging front, the phone comes with a 12MP 'dual-pixel ' rear camera with optical image stabilisation and an aperture of f/1.7 alongside a 5MP front shooter for selfies.

The OnePlus 5 and Honor 8 Pro are the two main competitors of the Galaxy S7 at its current discounted price. Inspite of being more than a year old, the S7 is not only capable of going toe to toe with these much more modern 'flagship killers'', but also coming out on top in many areas.

➡  Samsung Galaxy S7 vs OnePlus 5 :-

The two areas where the OnePlus 5 wins over the Galaxy S7 is pure performance and software. The combination of the Snapdragon 835 processor and 6GB RAM allows the OnePlus 5 to fly through both day to day and intensive tasks with ease. Additionally, Oxygen OS on board the OnePlus 5 is cleaner and lighter than the Galaxy S7's TouchWiz which slows down a little over time.

Otherwise, the so called dated Galaxy S7 comes with the option to expand internal storage, IP68 dust and water resistance which allows you to dunk the phone in up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes, wireless charging and a Quad HD display - all of which the OnePlus 5 lacks. In terms of performance, it is no slouch either. It may not have the raw performance grunt of the OnePlus 5, but it is still capable enough of handling day to day tasks with aplomb.

Moreover, the primary rear camera on the Galaxy S7 arguably shoots better photos than the OnePlus 5 - especially in low light. Yes, if you are dead set on dual cameras, the OnePlus 5 is the phone for you but when it comes to primary camera performance, the S7 comes out on top. The S7 runs on Android Nougat and keeping Samsung's two year update cycle for flagships in mind, should be in line to receive the Android Oreo update.

➡  Samsung Galaxy S7 vs Honor 8 Pro :-

The Honor 8 Pro is a fantastic smartphone - so much so that it earnt a 8.5/10 rating in our official review. It comes with superb dual cameras, a pixel perfect Quad HD display, great performance and good battery life.
However, the Galaxy S7 at Rs 24,990 (and less depending on which smartphone you exchange) simply offers better value for money. Apart from dual cameras, the S7 offers everything the 8 Pro does and more. The extras on offer are IP68 dust and water resistance, wireless charging, an arguably sleeker glass and metal design and less cluttered software. To be fair, the 8 Pro has a larger screen and is slightly faster when it comes to intensive tasks.
In India Today tech's Honor 8 Pro vs OnePlus 5 comparison, it was the latter that pulled ahead thanks to the sheer value for money it offers. But the Samsung Galaxy S7 at this price offers an even better deal.

Second-hand mobile phone market still offers a first class bargain in India

Across India, millions of users still buy second-hand phones because they would rather use an old phone with the features they need than settle for a new phone with lower specs.

Across India, millions of users still buy second-hand phones because they would rather use an old phone with the features they need than settle for a new phone with lower specs. Along with affordability, the shorter upgrade cycles of smartphones these days are also fuelling a demand for used phones. In most cases the prices difference is huge, even if the phone has been used sparingly by the original buyer. The supply side is fed by those who want to upgrade as soon a new phone that catches their eye is announced — this means selling their existing phone for whatever it is worth and moving on to a new one.

“The quality of mid-range and premium devices in past year or so has improved significantly. But since these devices are priced high, they are out of reach for many low and mid range consumers. Considering the quality of these devices, they work very well even after a year of usage, hence the demand for these devices is increasing amongst the low and mid range consumers in the used phone space,” Navkendar Singh, Associate Research Director – Client Devices and IPDS : India & South Asia, IDC India, told Aapkasamachar.com over mail.

Singh says used phones are attracting a lot of first-time smartphone users who are upgrading from a feature phone. These people basically want to experience video, data, and content. Instead of buying an expensive smartphone, they end up buying a used smartphone which fits perfectly in their budget.

“There is a certain segment of consumers who like to replace their phone every six to eight months to enjoy latest technology and specifications, and also as a status symbol. This is leading to increased supply of used phones in the market,” Singh added.

A few years back, the only way to get a second-hand smartphone was through the grey market. Every big city in India has a grey market of its own; Delhi has Gaffar Market, Mumbai has Heera Panna, Kolkata has Fancy Market, and Chennai has Burma Bazaar. Since the market for second-hand smartphones has expanded a lot, there are now different digital platforms (including e-commerce sites) to buy and sell second-hand smartphones. One of the leaders in the space, OLX, claims it processed half of the 4 million pre-owned mobile phones sold online in India in 2016-17.

The second-hand devices market it split into two: the first being local retailers and the second the refurbished market where phones are tested and repaired before being resold. Refurbished phones come with a minimum guarantee, usually six months, but command a premium in comparison to the grey market.

“The average replacement cycle for smartphones has shortened to less than two years. More than 65 per cent of Quikr users are selling their phones in less than two years. Around 35 per cent within one year. Therefore they opt for getting something which is as good as new,” Sarath Chandra Gudlavalleti, VP, QuikrBazaar, told indanexpress.com. As per the online classifiedmarket site, Xiaomi, Lenovo and OnePluscontinue to show the highest growth in the marketplace, while Apple has the most aspirational value.

Nitin Kochhar, Head Categories, ShopClues, believes the growing smartphone penetration in india and decrease in product life cycle has led to the growth in used devices business in India. Kochhar says consumers see a great value in second-hand phones which are available for less than the price of a new phone. Currently, on ShopClues, the most popular used smartphone brands are Xiaomi, Lenovo and Samsung.

Meanwhile, Hitendra Chaturvedi, Founder and CEO, GreenDust, says the entire definition and user perception of an “old phone” has changed. According to Chaturvedi, consumers really don’t care even if the phone is a six-month-old device. For them, a 50 per cent discount on the phone sounds like a real good bargain.

Greendust, which offers second-hand smartphones, claims both Apple and Samsung continue to be the most popular brands in the used device segment in India, with demand remaining consistently high across the past several quarters. These brands are closely followed by smartphones from Moto, OnePlus and Xiaomi which have also displayed steady growth.

Unorganised retail market continues to be popular for used smartphones
At Delhi’s Gaffar Market, a popular den for imported devices, the second-hand smartphone business is booming. Young adults, especially from the adjoining areas of Delhi, in their mid-20s continues to flock the oldest grey market in Delhi to buy used smartphones. The demand for Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s is peaking while Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is the popular choice among Android fans.

One retailer said the demand for second-hand phones have been stable and it is the price that matters and not how new the model is. A quick survey of the market revealed what is pulling in the customers. A 16GB Apple iPhone 6, now priced around Rs 22,999 on Amazon India, can be purchased for as little as Rs 12,000 here. For those who bargain, the price can go lower. Although there is no warranty on the iPhone 6, a bit of haggling can get you a seven-day warranty, good enough to figure out if the phone has any major issues.
Being predominantly in the unorganised sector, there is no way to quantify the used smartphone market in India. By rough calculations, unorganised retail still dominates and the online channels are unlikely to be more than a third of the volume. The popularity of the former is driven by the window to discuss the device and negotiate a price before the transaction. This is not an option online. Also, the transactions are instant, especially while selling and there is no hassle waiting for the phone to be picked up and valued.

Used smartphones might help OEMs in the long run
“The used phone market will continue to appeal to consumers looking for options in the mid to premium segment, looking for experiencing a flagship model from Apple, Samsung or Google, but cannot afford a newly launched model,” IDC’s Singh added. ShopClues’ Kochhar points out that even though they are independent universe, a lot of OEMs will start to acknowledge the used phone market and use this to increase sales through exchange programmes and buybacks.
GreenDust’s Chaturvedi believes OEMs will be impacted in the long run, but will still benefit from the rising popularity of used phones. “The market for refurbished, surplus, opened box or used phones allow users to afford expensive phones, try them out and eventually buy a new phone. In essence, users are basically able to test out an expensive phone of a brand without having to bear so much cost and eventually graduate to a new phone, the next time,” Chaturvedi added.

Buying a second-hand smartphone? Here is the rider
Buying a second-hand smartphone has its advantages, but users should avoid getting scammed. Often users get fooled by a fake device and in some cases, they end buying a stolen phone. The internet is flooded with unfortunate stories about people who bought a used phone only to know they were duped by a seller. One should obviously check the condition of a used phone, but try not to get lured by lower prices as you might get a dud.
There are other security risks when buying a used smartphone. In 2016, Norton by Symantec identified 6,464,472 new pieces of malware apps and 5,741,834 new pieces of greyware – apps with potential privacy issues or intrusive behaviors.
“Despite the growing threat and awareness of cybercrime, consumers remain complacent about protecting their personal information. It is imperative that the second-hand device owners take control of their personal information. Given that smartphone they are receiving is likely to go through factory re-set, the basic hygiene and security software update is much advised. Also, if there is an OS update available, they should prioritise the same,” Ritesh Chopra, Country Manager, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec, told Aapkasamachar.com

JioPhone Vs Airtel A40: Free feature phone or Rs 1399 smartphone? Which is better

The  race for the cheapest phone bundled with a data plan is on. While Idea, BSNL and other companies are yet to join this battle, Airtel, which is the largest telecom operator in the country, decided to take on the challenge thrown by Jio with its effectively free JioPhone. The company is countering the JioPhone , which is essentially a feature phone with some smart features, with A40 Indian that is a proper smartphone.

Airtel on Wednesday announced the A40 Indian, a phone made by Karbonn. It is 4G smartphone, and comes at an effective price of Rs 1399. The keyword here is effective. The smartphone supports dual SIM slot and offers access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp. The A40 Indian smartphone comes bundled with Airtel's monthly plan of Rs 169 which offers data and calling benefits.

The Karbonn A40 comes nearly after three months of the launch of the JioPhone. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio had announced the phone in July at RIL 40th Annual Global Meeting in Mumbai. However, the phone has started reaching the masses only now.

While there are several other companies like Idea, Vodafone and BSNL also planning their own "cheap" 4G phones, for now it seems to be between the Jio and Airtel. So how the JioPhone and A40 compare with each other, what do Jio and Airtel offer consumers with their data plans, and which is a better option? Is it JioPhone you should take or the A40? Some answers.

JioPhone Vs Airtel A40: The specs

The specs and design are the one of the first things that catch your eyes when you look at the phone first, so, it is always safe to start the comparison with these.

The JioPhone is a feature phone so expecting a great and massive display or some extraordinary specs would be insane. The JioPhone is a decent looking feature phone with a 2.40-inch display with a resolution of 240 pixels by 320 pixels. It is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 processor and 512 RAM. The phone comes with 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. There's a 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera. The Jio Phone runs on KAI OS and is backed by a 2000mAh removable battery. The phone comes with a single SIM slot which is locked to Jio network. This means you can use only Jio SIM with your JioPhone.
The Airtel-Karbonn A40 Indian is a smartphone running on Android Nougat. It has a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800 X 480 pixels and is most probably powered by a MediaTek processor clocked at the speed of 1.3MHz. There's a 2MP camera on the rear and a 0.3MP camera on the front. The phone supports dual SIM so you can use any network you want. However, using other network will not get you the cashback.

The Airtel phone comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage that's expandable up to 32GB in against of JioPhone in which it is expandable up to 128GB. Now, while the Airtel A40 phone may be a better looking phone than the JioPhone, there are few things that it misses out on like the internal storage (it's only 32GB) or the NFC support. The JioPhone comes with NFC support while Airtel phone lacks it. Although, we must note that the internal storage bit is a toss between these two phones. The A40 has more 8GB storage, which is handy because you can store more on it without using an SD card.
In terms of hardware, the A40 is a clear winner. It has touch-screen, which the JioPhone doesn't. It has a faster processor probably. It has a bigger battery. A bigger screen.

Although all of this may not matter much. Because with its better hardware the A40 also has to run a more demanding software that is Android Nougat. Yes, the internal storage is more but then Nougat and apps will also take more storage, will use more RAM. Despite the better hardware, we feel that the JioPhone could be a slightly faster device. The A40 will surely do more but probably with some lags etc. The JioPhone will do less, but probably in a better way.
Talking of doing more, the A40 is a clear winner when it comes to apps. You will be able to run WhatsApp and Facebook on it. On JioPhone,  there is no WhatsApp for you.

  •  JioPhone V Airtel's A40: The price debate:

With JioPhone as well as the A40, one important part is their prices. The term "effectively free" has become synonymous to the JioPhone.

But there is fine print. Jio calls the JioPhone as effectively free but there is a minimum amount you need to pay to use the phone. The company asks for Rs 1500 as the security deposit for the phone which will be refunded after 36 months. A Rs 153 plan every month is mandatory for the phone. So, Rs 153 recharge for 36 months equals to Rs 5508.
Here's the Jio Maths
Rs 1500 + Rs 5508= Rs 7008
Now after a refund of Rs 1500 after 36 months, total cost you give is
Rs 7008-Rs 1500= Rs 5508, the final price
Now in case of Airtel Karbonn A40, buyer has to make a down payment of Rs 2899 for the 4G smartphone and make 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs 169. The customer will get a cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another Rs 1000 after 36 months, taking the total cash benefit to Rs 1500. Here is the Math.
Rs 2899 (down payment)+ Rs 169 x 36 months= Rs 8983
Now, a cashback of Rs 1500 means
Rs 8983-Rs 1500= Rs 7483, the final price
Both the phones come at near about the same prices.
One important bit to note here is that after 36 months, you will have to return the JioPhone back to Jio. But with A40, you get to keep the phone.

  • JioPhone Vs Airtel A40: The data war:

Airtel is giving 512MB data per day at Rs 169 while Jio is giving 500MB data per day at Rs 153. The unlimited calls is subjected to fair usage for both Jio and Airtel. This means if you misuse the free calls, you may be charged or the company may limit your calls.Jio offers unlimited data which means your internet will continue to work even after you've crossed your FUP limit but at a reduced speed. In case of Airtel, you will be charged once you've reached your data limit for the day.

Also, with Jio you get free SMS which is not the case with Airtel A40.

  • JioPhone V Airtel A40: The cashback conditions:

Both Jio and Airtel come with cashback of Rs 1500 but both have its own terms and conditions. The Jio says that it would refund the entire Rs 1500 amount only if the phone is used for 36 months. User will be charged Rs 1000 along with applicable GST or other taxes if the phone is returned 12 months and before 24 months. It is Rs 500 if you return after 24 months and before 36 months from the date of first issue of the JioPhone. Also, Jio says users have to ensure that the phone is in working condition, undamaged, and has all the user data removed from the it while returning the phone. Also, you are not eligible for the cashback if you do not do the mandatory recharge every month.

Similarly to the JioPhone, the Airtel-Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone too has its own set of terms and conditions for the cashback. The users will get the Rs 500 cashback only after they've used the smartphone for 18 months. Also, it is mandatory to get a total recharges worth Rs 3000 for 1 months.

There's an additional Rs 1000 cashback which will be given to users only if they have used the A40 smartphone with an Airtel plan for another 18 months and done recharges for at least Rs 3000 in this period. One important bit to note is here that Airtel will credit the cashback to user's Airtel Payment Bank account and it is not mandatory to return the phone even after getting the cashback.
