Saheb ji is a teacher.

I used to teach the mistakes,
Even then, this society has been downgrading teachers.

Wherever people say I feel wrong,
I have always been thinking about the future of the country.

Found me a nice business lucky,
I kept tugging the children to the guardians.

I have never been wrong, I have children like Swajan,
I've been listening to anybody else, even silly.

If the foundation will be stronger then the Adicham wall,
To be futuristic, the building of bright education was considered.

26 January 1950: The story behind Republic Day and its significance

During Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress in 1929, a resolution was passed demanding complete independence on January 26.

January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day of India as on this the day our constitution came into force. On Republic Day, the constitution prepared by drafting committee headed by BR Ambedkar was implemented, replacing the Government of India Act 1935. After 200 years of struggle, India was finally a federal democratic sovereign nation.

Story behind Republic Day

Though India gained independence on August 15, 1947 but our country continued to be led by British monarch King George VI. Constituent Assembly appointed drafting committee to draft a legal framework that would be passed by it. BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of our constitution was heading the committee. The constitution was passed on November 26, 1949 but those who have celebrated India's first Independence Day ,i.e., January 26, 1930 decided to wait for two more months. To remember the day and to remind countrymen of its importance, January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day.

Importance of Republic Day

During Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress in 1929, a resolution was passed demanding complete independence on January 26. Also, the president of the session Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tricolour as the day was declared Purna Swaraj Diwas. Leaders continued to celebrated the day as Independence Day for the next 17 years. To honour the significance of January 26, constituent assembly decided to enforce the constitution on this day

How is Republic Day celebrated?

On the eve of Republic Day, President of India addresses the nation. On January 26, President hoists the National Flag and ceremonial parade begins from Vijay Chowk. The parade is witnessed by many people along with foreign guests, dignitaries and delegates. Tableaux from all states, union territories and central ministries are displayed. It is a carnival with colourful tableaux and music representing cultural heritage of states. India also displays its military skills with various regiments marching at Rajapth. Aircrafts, submarines are displayed by Air Force, Navy and Army contingents. Also the jawans of BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles and CRPF march on the beat of rhythm.

1. The Discovery of IndiaJawaharlal Nehru wrote this book while he was in jail for his participation in the Quit India movement. He wrote the book during 1942-46 and dedicated it to the prisoners who provided him a stimulating environment to pen down his thoughts and experiences of living in the country he loves.

The book is a mix of personal essays and reflections and provides a broad view of Indian history, philosophy and culture, as viewed from his eyes. The book is seen as one of the finest writings on Indian history.

2. Glimpses of World History This book is a collection of 196 letters that Jawaharlal Nehru wrote to his daughter Indira when he was in various prisons in British India between 1930-1933.

The letters were meant to introduce her to world history. In the first few letters, Mr Nehru expresses his sadness for not being able to be around his daughter and give her the materialistic gifts that other parents could, but he promises to give her a gift that he could afford; in the form of knowledge and wisdom through words that come from the core of his heart.

The book contains the history of humankind from 6000 BC to the time of writing of the book. He talks about the histories of every significant place ranging from Greece in the far West to China in the east. The book talks about the wars that were fought during these years and the greatest revolutions that overthrew established dynasties. He has also written about the legendary leaders and kings like Alexander the Great and Mahatma Gandhi.

The book depicts the political realisation of an upcoming giant of a nation and the battle for its freedom.

The book was published in 1936 and ran nine editions in the first year alone.

4. Letters From A Father To His Daughter: This book was published in 1929 and has a collection of 30 letters written by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1928 to his daughter Indira Gandhi when she was 10 years old. For the land of festivals, India, this time of the year is rather joyous and celebratory time. Why you ask? Because its Diwali.  Also known as the festival of lights, Diwali is one of the most significant festivals celebrated across the country . Diwali 2017 falls on 19th October 2017 and the preparations for it have already begun in full swing. From buying new clothes to painting your houses and organizing Diwali parties, one can't help but notice the festive spirit in the air.

⏩ Significance of Diwali or Deepavali

Diwali marks the homecoming of Lord Rama with his wife Sita and brother Laxmana to his kingdom Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. Lord Rama who left for his 'Vanvaas', following his father King Dasharat's command, spent 14 years wandering in the forests and villages of India. Towards the end of his exile, Sita is abducted by the ten-headed king of Lanka Ravana who disguises himself as a Yogi as asks Sita for 'Bhiksha' (offerings). While handing it over to him, Sita crosses the Laxman-Rekha drawn by Ram's younger brother Laxman and Ravana is able to capture her. Lord Ram, on hearing this, launches a war against the army of Ravana and reaches Lanka to fight Ravana and bring his wife back. The victory of Lord Rama in the epic battle of Ramayana symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

It is believed that when the news of Lord Ram returning to his homeland reached Ayodhya, the entire city was lit with thousands of oil lamps (diyas) and decorated with flowers and beautiful rangolis. Since then, Diwali has been known as the festival of lights. In order to welcome, Lord Ram into their homes people decorate their houses with oil lamps, which is why the festival is also called 'Deepavali'. The tradition of lighting oil lamps symbolizes the victory of good over evil. People also make preparations to welcome Goddess Lakshmi by drawing beautiful rangolis, and Paduka (footsteps) on the entrance of their houses. In Bengal, people conduct the Kali puja on the Diwali day which takes place overnight. There is also a tradition of distributing sweets and dry fruits to friends, relative and neighbours to celebrate the festival of Diwali. Kaju Katli, Besan Laddoo and Soan Papdi are some of the most common sweets enjoyed during Diwali.

Diwali celebrations are spread across a period of five days with each day having its own significance and traditional rituals that are followed. The celebrations kickstart with 'Dhanteras', the auspicious day on which people buy utensils, silver ware or gold. It is believed that new "Dhan" or some form of precious metal bought on this auspicious day is a sign of good luck and prosperity. Choti Diwali follows next, which involves preparations for the Badi Diwali. People start decorating their houses with lights, and hold get-togethers. The next day is celebrated as Badi Diwali, the main festive day which is on 19th October 2017. On this day, people perform laxmi puja, visit each other's houses with sweets and gifts, burn fire crackers and spend time with their family and friends. The day after Diwali is celebrated as Govardhan Puja and finally the five-day celebration comes to an end with Bhai Dooj where sisters apply tilak on their brother's forehead and siblings pray for each other's well-being.
