Tiger Zinda Hai box office collection day 17: The rise and rise of Salman Khan’s film

Having swiftly moved past the coveted Rs 300 crore mark, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai has not shown any sign of slowing down.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the latest figures of the film saying, “It’s a TRIPLE CENTURY… #TigerZindaHai refuses to slow down… Crosses #Sultan… Now eyes #BajrangiBhaijaan [₹ 320.34 cr]… [Week 3] Fri 3.72 cr, Sat 5.62 cr. Total: ₹ 300.89 cr. India biz. #TZH.”

While it is almost futile to wonder why Tiger Zinda Hai is getting the incessant love of the audience even after two weeks from its release, the answer being the hardcore Bhai juggernaut.

What also worked in the film’s favour was the lack of any major releases in its following weeks. Yes, there were big Hollywood films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and All The Money In The World but Bollywood pretty much was going through a dull phase in terms of releases.

Next Friday, we have Saif Ali Khan’s Kaalakaandi hitting the theaters. Will the Akshat Verma directorial be able to hinder the rise and rise of Tiger Zinda Hai? We think not, since it is quite inconceivable for ardent Bhai fans to let go of their undue devotion.

Tiger Zinda Hai presents Salman in his best form, a suave, beefed up RAW agent entitled with a task only he can accomplish, the rescue of Indian nurses from terrorist kingpin, Abu Usman.

In an interview to indianexpress.com earlier, Salman had said, “People go to watch my films during festivals. They dress up, cheer and whistle. I have some other connect with my audience.

They just don’t want to see me cry on screen.” Well, we saw the result of that in Salman’s previous release Tubelight. But Tiger Zinda Hai, for that matter, is roaring high at the theaters.

WhatsApp on New Year's Eve: 20 Billion Messages Sent in India, 75 Billion Worldwide

WhatsApp says this is the highest-ever user activity on a single day

Join Our Whatsapp Group To Get Latest News

More than 13 billion images, 5 billion videos were shared worldwide

Interestingly, WhatsApp suffered an outage late on New Year’s eve

WhatsApp users in India sent over 20 billion messages on December 31 as they ushered in 2018 with wishes to family and friends. In a release, WhatsApp revealed that of the 75 billion messages shared on New Year’s Eve, 20 billion were just from India. These figures the highest-ever number of messages shared on the platform, which has over 1 billion users worldwide and counts India as its biggest market with 200 million users. It is notable that WhatsApp suffered an outage lasting more than an hour late on December 31, 2017 and in the early hours from January 1, 2018.

In a statement, WhatsApp said the 75 billion messages sent worldwide included more than 13 billion images and 5 billion videos. The company says it recorded this data is only for 12am to 11:59pm PST on December 31.

While this data represents huge volume and user activity on the platform, WhatsApp disappointed many in India when it went down as the clock struck midnight on January 1. The service went down across the country and users were unable to send messages to their loved ones for more than an hour. At the time, no reason for the outage was given by the company, which only said, “WhatsApp users around the world experienced a brief outage today that has now been resolved.”

In 2017, the Facebook-owned app introduced a number of new features and changes to the platform. These include the option to delete sent messages, arguably the biggest new feature since the blue ticks were introduced. Similarly, there were features such as the all-new Statuslive location sharing, etc. to keep users engaged. However, co-founder Brian Acton also left WhatsApp in 2017 to “start a non-profit focused at the intersection of nonprofit, technology and communications.”

Bhima Koregaon clash: 11 public transport buses damaged; E-way traffic hit

Traffic on Pune-Mumbai expressway was severely affected due to the three-hour ‘rasta roko aandolan’ by members of Dalit groups.

AT LEAST 11 buses run by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and the Pune Municipal Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) were damaged during protests held in the city and the ouskirts on Tuesday, officials said.
The protests were held in the aftermath of the clashes
between Dalit and Maratha groups that broke out on Monday in villages around Bhima Koregaon during celebrations to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregoan.

Traffic on Pune-Mumbai expressway was severely affected due to the three-hour ‘rasta roko aandolan’ by members of Dalit groups. Officials said as many as 8 to 9 buses were halted at Pimpri for over 4 to 6 hours. Srinivas Joshi, controller, Pune Division (MSRTC), said windows and windshields of three buses — Pune-Baramati (damaged at Bhekrai Nagar, Solapur Road), Daund-Tuljapur (damaged at Daund) and a stationery bus at Baramati Station — were damaged due to stonepelting.

On Monday, three other buses — Pune-Nagpur Shiv Shahi Volvo, Aurangabad-Pune and Alibuag-Aurangabad — were damaged by protesters, officials added. “A total of 139 buses have been damaged across the state,” an official with the MSRTC said. Officials with the PMPML said windshields of eight of their buses were damaged by protesters in different areas within the city and outskirts.
Subhash Gaikwad, public relations officer, PMPML, said, “Our depot managers have reported damage to buses at Awhalwadi, Ganganagar, Nehrunagar, Manjari, Sadhu Vaswani Chowk and Pune Railway Station.”
Both the transport bodies said services on none of the routes have been stalled but they were co-ordinating with the city and rural police to avoid sending buses to disturbed areas.

Confirming the news, Association head Subhash Talekar said means of transportation difficult for delivery of tiffins on time during bandh .

Groups of Dalit activists jumped on the railway tracks, shouting slogans and waving flags to attempt a rail-blockade at Thane and Virar stations in Palghar, but were prevented by the security forces.

In Mumbai, colleges and schools opened as usual but schoolbuses stayed off roads as a precaution. One private school bus was stoned in Chembur but there were no injuries.

Though many taxi-auto rickshaw unions have supported the shutdown, the city's lifeline, the suburban trains and the BEST (Bombay Electric Supply And Transport) buses services were plying near-normally.

Today's Class 11 exams at St Xavier's College in South Mumbai have been cancelled, college authorities said.

Two film-related events scheduled for Wednesday here were cancelled due to the Maharashtra shutdown called by some Dalit parties.

"Due to Maharashtra bandh today, we have decided to push our 'My Birthday Song' trailer release to tomorrow January 4, 2018. Thank you," tweeted the movie's producer and actor Sanjay Suri.

Even a song launch event for "Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety" was cancelled "owing to the current situation in the city".

Reliance JioPhone listed on Amazon: Better to stick with offline for this 4G feature phone?

Reliance JioPhone, which could previously be ordered via Jio's official website or MyJio app online, is now listed on Amazon India.

Here's why it is a good idea to buy the device offline.

Reliance JioPhone, which could previously be ordered via Jio’s official website or MyJio app online, is now listed on Amazon India.
The 4G VoLTE-enabled feature phone was launched at an effective price of Rs 0, though people need to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500 for purchasing the device. On Amazon, the JioPhone is priced at Rs 1,745
plus Rs 49 delivery charges, which is slightly higher than the original price. The official reseller is Gadget Geek Business Solution.

However, for those interested in getting the JioPhone, it is actually better to buy the device from authorised Jio retailers or other leading mobile retail stores across India, given they’ll not be charged extra. Also with regard to details of refunds, activating the SIM, an offline store will likely offer more clarity on these aspects which are crucial in the JioPhone and its overall pricing.

Interestingly, Jio’s official website hasn’t yet resumed pre-bookings for the phone, even though it is available via offline channels. Meanwhile, the company has said that it will announce the next JioPhone booking date soon. The JioPhone reseller on Amazon India is not an authorised seller from Jio, though some of the comments indicate the phone was actually delivered to customers.
For those who still need a feature phone, the JioPhone comes at en effective price of Rs 0. The security deposit of Rs 1,500 will be refunded to users after three years on return of the device in working condition. However, Jio has attached a number of terms and conditions on when this exact deposit will be returned and users should keep those in mind. Also the JioPhone only works with a Jio SIM card and people can’t use SIM cards from other telecom companies like Vodafone, Airtel, Idea, etc.

Reliance Jio has a couple of data plans for JioPhone users, which includes a Rs 153 monthly pack as well as Rs 24 and Rs 54 sachet packs.
With Jio’s Rs 153 plan, users will get 500MB data per day for 28 days along with unlimited voice calls and SMS. The Rs 24 and Rs 54 plans offer the same benefits but with a day’s and a week’s validity respectively.

JioPhone is a low-cost 4G handset, which was unveiled by the company in July. It comes with smart features like 4G VoLTE connectivity, a voice assistant, and support for company’s apps that come pre-loaded on the device. JioPhone gets a 2.4-inch QVGA display and it runs KaiOS.
The single-SIM phone has a SD card slot, a USB port for charging, speaker, FM Radio, torchlight, and SOS option. Reliance JioPhone features a 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera. It is powered by a dual-core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 processor,
coupled with 512MB RAM and 4GB storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
The JioPhone is backed by a 2000 mAh battery.

WhatsApp stops working on BlackBerry, Windows Phone 8 and older platforms

Messaging platform WhatsApp will now be unavailable to users operating Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS as well as old Android phones.

Facebook-owned mobile messaging app WhatsApp has stopped working on smartphones that support ‘BlackBerry OS’, ‘BlackBerry 10’, ‘Windows Phone 8.0’ and older platforms in the New Year.

“These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” a spokesperson wrote in a support note on the company’s website.

“If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp,” it said. Users would be able to use WhatsApp but would not be able to create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts.

“Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,” WhatsApp said. WhatsApp would also end support for NokiaS40 after December 31, 2018 and Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020.

“As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use,” the company said. “If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone to continue using WhatsApp,” it added.
