A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly abducted and raped by her neighbour on the pretext of taking her to a relative’s birthday party in Jhalawar district, police said today. The girl, a class 6 student, resident of Tailiyo ka Mohalla in Khanpur town, was allegedly abducted yesterday by Vijay Singh (22) while she was playing outside her home, Sub Inspector (SI) at Khanpur police station Surendra Singh said.

The accused fled the town after allegedly committing the crime, he said. The minor girl, whose parents are daily wage labourers, was alone at home, when the accused took her on his motorcycle on the pretext of taking her to a birthday party, the official said.

The victim narrated the plight to her parents following which they approached the police and lodged a case against the accused by naming him, Singh said. Meanwhile, the police van of the Khanpur police station, taking the victim and her parents overturned today on the way to a community health centre (CHC), he said.

The victim’s father sustained minor hand injuries and the others escaped unhurt, Singh said. The girl has now been sent to district headquarter Jhalawar for medical examination, he added.

As the battle for power in poll-bound Gujarat intensifies, it is now Prime Minister Narendra Moditurn to lead the BJP’s campaign in the state. PM Modi, who is on a three-day visit to his home state, will address at least eight rallies in different parts of Kutch, Saurashtra and south Gujarat. On Monday, he will start his rally from Bhuj in Kutch district.

On Sunday, the saffron party kickstarted the campaign with “Mann Ki Baat, Chai Ke Saath” event where various party leaders listened to PM’s address while sipping tea at all 50,128 polling booths across the state. While interacting with the citizens, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley criticised Pakistan over 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s release and Union Minister Smriti Irani said people would teach the Congress a lesson for its anti-poor mindset.

The polling for the two-phase elections in Gujarat, having total 182 seats, will take place on December 9 and 14. Votes will be counted on December 18.

Few workers had also reportedly vandalised property at the party office in Gandhinagar.

8.30 am: Prime Minister Modi will first visit a temple in Kutch and seek the blessings of Ashapura Mata. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi Sunday said, “Tomorrow I begin my rallies across Gujarat. According to Adobe Digital Insights mobile transactions were "hitting record highs".

Black Friday follows Thanksgiving Day that is observed on the fourth Thursday of November, heralding the Christmas shopping season.

"The big story this holiday season is in mobile shopping," CNBC reported, quoting Mickey Mericle, Vice president of Adobe's Marketing and Customer Insights division.

According to Adobe Insights, 61.1 per cent of shoppers' visits to retailers' websites were for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.

A report in The Financial Times said the holiday season was set to be the first in which more shopping will happen online than in stores.

"Brands and retailers will offer an array of great deals on electronic devices. Those that we expect to lure consumers the most will be headphones, tablets, fitness bands, smartphones and TVs. We also expect smartwatches, VPA-enabled speakers and smart headphones to fuel demand," Annette Zimmermann, Research Vice President at Gartner for Black Friday, said in a statement.

For several years now, Black Friday has become a driver of sales in Europe, both in online and offline commerce.

"We see this trend in many European countries, including the UK, Germany, France and Italy, where Black Friday and Cyber Week have become well-known terms for shoppers," Zimmermann added.

Gartner expects sales of smartphones to total 1.57 billion units in 2017, up 4.9 per cent from 2016.

All-India bank strike on December 27 over wage revision in IDBI Bank

Banking union AIBEA has been demanding a wage revision for employees and officers of the IDBI Bank, allegedly due for the period from November 1, 2012 to October 31, 2017.

The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) - two of the biggest unions in the banking sector - have called for an all-India strike on December 27, demanding the implementation of the long overdue wage revision in IDBI Bank. The United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has reportedly support the strike call.

AIBEA has been demanding a wage revision for employees and officers of the IDBI Bank, allegedly due for the period from November 1, 2012 to October 31, 2017. According to media reports, all other banks have not only completed and implemented the wage revision in May 2015, but have also commenced negotiations for the next revision due from November 2017. Even the likes of the Reserve Bank, Life Insurance Corporation, General Insurance Corporation, and Regional Rural Banks have reported completed the exercise. So the miffed trade unions again discussed the issue at a joint central committee meeting held in Delhi, according to The Hindu Business Line, and took the decision for the sector-wide strike. In a joint statement, the two unions said they have been taking up the matter repeatedly with IDBI Bank management and the central government but it's been dragging on endlessly.

The bank's management on it part has been steadfastly pinning the blame on its bad loans. During the September quarter, IDBI Bank reported a loss of Rs 197.84 crore - its fourth straight quarterly loss - against a profit of Rs 55.52 crore a year back. The percentage of gross non-performing assets (NPAs) to total assets rose to 24.98 per cent, the highest among all lenders currently. That's really bad news for the employees seeking wage revision.

Incidentally, the associations had previously gone on a two-day strike in October to protest the "inadequate response" to their long-pending demand. The management had reportedly offered a hike of only 7-8 per cent against a demand of 15 per cent, on the lines of the industry-level 10th Bipartite Settlement. Will the coming strike succeed where all other efforts have failed?

After being taken down from GooglePlay Store for over a week, UCWeb said in a press statement that a new version of its UC Browser is now available on the Play Store. China-based UC Browser was accused of running misleading campaigns

which the company later denied. The app was temporarily removed from Google Play Store for seven days starting November 13.

According to the company, “certain setting of UC Browser is not in line with Google’s policy” which led to its removal from Play Store. The new version is available for users with updated technical settings strictly in line with Google Play’s policy, the company said in a statement.
