The live location sharing feature is short term with Whatsapp users controlling all aspects about who to, when and for how long.

Whatsapp has announced a new feature that will tell people in your contacts where you are. The live location sharing feature is short term with users controlling all aspects about who to, when and for how long.

The feature will come in handy to tell everyone where you are and if you are safe, it would also be a great way for friends and family to track you if you are expected somewhere or are on a trip.

“This end-to-end encrypted feature lets you control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire,” a Whatsapp blog said, adding that feature too was end-to-end encrypted.

  • So how will the feature work?

Well, users can open a chat with the person or group you want to share with. Then under “Location” in the attach button, there’s a new option to “Share Live Location.” Here you can choose for how long you want to share and tap send. This means everyone in the chat will be able to see your real-time location on a map. The feature lets more than one person share their Live Location in the group. All thee locations will pop up on the same map.

The feature will be available for both Android and iOS users and is already live for most users in India.

Facebook update takes three days to fact-check for fake news

As per an email accessed by AP, it routinely takes more than three days for a false story that appears on Facebook to be passed along to fact-checkers and given a false rating.

Facebook’s effort to limit the spread of fake news using outside fact-checkers appears to be having an effect — although that finding comes with a major caveat. Once a story receives a false rating from a fact-checker, Facebook says, subsequent “impressions” can fall off by 80 percent. Impressions count the number of times Facebook users see a particular post.

But it routinely takes more than three days for a false story that appears on Facebook to be passed along to fact-checkers and given a false rating. And most impressions occur when the story first comes out, not three days later. That’s the case with all news, both true and fake. The information was shared in an email from a Facebook manager sent to the company’s fact-checking partners, including The Associated Press. Facebook gave an AP reporter access to the email.

Jason White, Facebook’s manager of news partnerships, wrote in the email that the company is working to identify “these hoaxes sooner.” “We also need to surface more of them, as we know we miss many,” he wrote. At the same time, he added that it is “equally important we do this the right way, and don’t restrict legitimate speech. It’s a difficult tension, but we are confident we can improve our efforts.”

Facebook has long stressed that it only wants to go after the “worst of the worst” offenders when it comes to false news and hoaxes. While many stories may be disputed as biased or partially false, the company is trying to avoid the appearance of censorship.

This is also why, as part of its fact-checking program, a story must be found false by at least two fact-checkers before Facebook will label it as “disputed.”

The move comes after a 50-year-old man, who was called in by Delhi Police for questioning in connection with a murder case, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Sonipat railway station.

Five policemen, including an ACP-rank officer posted with Delhi Police’s northwest district, have been booked in a abetment to suicide case filed by Haryana Railway Police. The move comes after a 50-year-old man, who was called in by Delhi Police for questioning in connection with a murder case, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Sonipat railway station.

On September 28, an FIR was registered against the policemen at Sonipat railway police station, and police are probing their role. Superintendent of Police (Haryana Railway Police) Kamal Deep Goyal told The Indian Express that an FIR under IPC sections 306 (abetment to suicide and 34 (common intent) was registered against the Delhi Police personnel after they received a complaint from the family of the victim, identified as Sunil Singh.
“We are probing the matter and will take all appropriate actions,” he said. On September 13, Sumer Singh (53), an assistant security officer, posted with the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), was shot dead by unidentified assailants in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi.

A case was registered at Mahendra Park police station. “After recording the statements of locals, and scanning CCTV footage, police came to know that Sunil Singh, another security officer, was present when Sumer Singh was shot dead. They later summoned him and asked him to join the investigation,” police sources said.

DCP (northwest) Milind Dumbere said, “We questioned him thrice after serving three notices to him. Whenever he was called in for questioning, his son also came along with him and he was aware of it.” Sources said after appearing before the Delhi Police thrice, the victim returned to his village in Sonipat. On September 23, police summoned him again and asked him to join the investigation in Delhi.

“On September 24, he left home after informing his family members that he was going to Delhi, and even purchased his ticket from the station. But instead of boarding his train, he jumped in front of it. Personnel from Sonipat railway police station rushed to the spot. They recovered a one-page suicide note, wherein he alleged that he was fed up appearing before Delhi Police for questioning. He also mentioned several other issues in the suicide note,” said Tarachand, SHO, Sonipat railway police station.

On September 26, Sunil’s son Manjeet Singh lodged a complaint with police, alleging that five police personnel were responsible for his father’s suicide and that they had been harassing his father citing the investigation. “After conducting an enquiry, we lodged an FIR of abetment to suicide. We are likely to approach Delhi Police in the coming days,” the SHO added.
Dumbere said, “After we came to know about this matter, we conducted an internal enquiry. However, we have not found anything wrong on our part. We have maintained all documents and have followed all rules.” On September 26, two persons, including a juvenile were apprehended for allegedly killing Sumer Singh. They told police that they decided to kill him since he had slapped the juvenile and stopped him from entering the Azadpur Mandi from the wrong side.

Security researchers claim to have found high-severity vulnerabilities in WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II), a popular security protocol used by nearly every Wi-Fi device on the planet. The vulnerabilities could potentially allow anyone near your router to eavesdrop on the Wi-Fi traffic being sent through it.

Details have been revealed on a dedicated site called aapkasamachar.com, named after the proof-of-concept attack called KRACK (Key Reinstallation Attacks). A total of 10 vulnerabilities have been identified, and were discovered by researcher Mathy Vanhoef of imec-DistriNet, KU Leuven.

"If your device supports Wi-Fi, it is most likely affected," Vanhoef writes on the website.
"Concretely, attackers can use this novel [KRACK] attack technique to read information that was previously assumed to be safely encrypted. This can be abused to steal sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, photos, and so on. The attack works against all modern protected Wi-Fi networks," he adds.
The attack essentially targets Wi-Fi clients using WPA2 (nearly every Wi-Fi device out there), and compromises the encryption protocol used for communicating with the router. After this, "any data or information that the victim transmits can be decrypted", Vanhoef notes, adding that event HTTPS communication have been bypassed in the past, so it may not be safe either.
He adds that the "attack is exceptionally devastating against Linux and Android 6.0 or higher", though devices running Apple's mobile and desktop operating system, Windows, OpenBSD etc. are all vulnerable. Note that to protect yourself against attacks, it's Wi-Fi clients like laptops, smartphones, smart home devices, and the likes, will need to install security updates.
"Our main attack is against the 4-way handshake, and does not exploit access points, but instead targets clients. So it might be that your router does not require security updates," Vanhoef notes.
The vulnerabilities have been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) identifiers, specifically: CVE-2017-13077, CVE-2017-13078, CVE-2017-13079, CVE-2017-13080, CVE-2017-13081, CVE-2017-13082, CVE-2017-13084, CVE-2017-13086,CVE-2017-13087, and CVE-2017-13088. Further details of these vulnerabilities can be found on the aforementioned website, or the National Vulnerability Database of the US Department of Commerce’s aapkasamachar website.

Teen gangrape survivor kills self after more rape threats in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat

Police initially suspected that the girl killed herself over a domestic fight but later arrested five men in connection with the case.

A 15-year-old girl committed suicide after the men who allegedly gangraped her threatened her with rape again. The incident took place in Baghpat district of western Uttar Pradesh. Initially, police suspected that the girl killed herself over a domestic fight but later arrested five men in connection with the case.
Baghpat Superintendent of Police (SP) Jai Prakash has suspended the Ramala police station in-charge for alleged negligence in the case and a departmental probe has been initiated against him.
Accused Sonu, Monu, Rohit, Sagar and Pappu have been arrested and a case has been registered against them. The court has remanded all the five accused in police custody.
The 15-year-old victim's mother said that her daughter was a Class 8 student in the village school. The alleged incident of gangrape took place nearly four months ago. According to the girl's mother, the teenager had gone to a nearby shop to buy groceries but did not return home.
Tha family approached the police and filed a complaint against five village youth for kidnapping the girl. The girl's mother alleged that despite a formal complaint, police did not investigate the case. According to the mother, the accused dumped the girl outside the Ramala police station five days after she went missing.
On gaining consciousness, the girl alleged that five youngsters kidnapped her and took her to a room where they gangraped her. The girl's family registered a complaint with the police. The family alleged that police did not investigate the case and gave the accused a clean chit in their final report.
On Friday, the girl went to the nearby shop to buy a few things when the accused allegedly threatened her with rape. The girl rushed home and told her family about the rape threats but before they could approach the police, she committed suicide.
On their part, police said that the girl was not raped and therefore the five accused were given a clean chit. The girl's family, however, claimed that the girl's medical examination report confirmed raped. The girl's statement was also recorded in the case.
The girl's last rites were performed amid heavy police security on Saturday. SP Jai Prakash said that police will again investigate the rape case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi To Address Mega Rally In Gujarat Today: 10 Points

AhmedabadPrime Minister Narendra Modi will address around seven lakh BJP workers today in his home state Gujarat, where assembly elections will be held by the end of this year. On the eve of his visit to Gandhinagar, the Prime Minster tweeted, "I bow to the people of Gujarat for blessing BJP for decades. We will always fulfil the dreams of every Gujarati with full strength & vigour". The BJP, which has been in power in the state for two decades, hopes to win a record fifth time. Party chief Amit Shah has set it a target of winning 150 of Gujarat's 182 Assembly seats.

1.The 'Gujarat Gaurav Mahasammelan' marks the conclusion of the party's 'GujaratGaurav Yatra' (March for Honour), launched on October

2.In a series of tweets, PM Modi said the 'Gujarat Gaurav Mahasammelan' will be attended by "lakhs of BJP karyakartas" from across the state. The public meeting, he wrote, comes after the "successful culmination of the 2 Gujarat Gaurav Yatras", which covered almost 4,500 km and 149 of the state's 182 assembly seats.
3.The yatras, he tweeted, had "showcased the spirit of Jan Shakti & reflected Gujarat's strong faith in politics of development & good governance".

4.Today's function at Bhat village near state capital Gandhinagar will be attended by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, BJP chief Amit Shah and many other leaders of the party.

5.The Election Commission is yet to announce the schedule for the assembly polls in Gujarat. The tenure of the Gujarat assembly is till January 22.

6.The Congress has alleged that the BJP plans to announce a number of "sops" at the mega rally.  The party also said this is why the BJP pressured the Election Commission into delaying the announcement of dates for the election - a charge the poll body has denied. The announcement of election dates triggers the model code of conduct, under which announcement of schemes that may influence voters is banned.

7.The Prime Minister has made multiple visits to Gujarat ahead of the elections. Last week, on a two-day visit, he inaugurated various projects in Rajkot, his hometown Vadnagar, Gandhinagar and Bharuch.
8.The BJP has been in power in Gujarat since 1995. The party had won 115 seats in the 2012 assembly elections. Mr Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and held the post till he entered the national arena as the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 General Elections.

9.After him, Anandiben Patel became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. But she stepped down after the massive agitation by the Patel community for reservation in jobs and education amid speculation over fallout with Amit Shah. She has been succeeded by Vijay Rupani.

10.The Congress, which is hoping to recapture power in the state, has been plagued by turbulence over the last few months. In July, state party chief Shankersinh Vaghela walked out after weeks of dallying. Soon after, supposedly at his behest, six Congress legislators resigned, three of them joined the BJP.  Since last month party chief Rahul Gandhi had paid several visits to the state to lead the party's campaign.
