➡ Android phone makers looking at iPhone X-like Face ID feature; iPhone 7 top-selling smartphone

Face ID might be exclusive to the iPhone X for now, but that’s not going to stop Android manufacturers from trying to replicate similar functionality. KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo hasstated that Android smartphone makers are increasingly inquiring about 3D-sensing tech, with three times as many inquiries for advanced facial recognition technology. Kuo, who has an admirable track record on all things Apple, said he believes that in the next two to three years, Android smartphones featuring a 3D sensor equipped facial recognition technology will exceed under-display fingerprint recognition by a factor of two or three or more.

In more smartphone news, the iPhone 7 has sold more than any other smartphone in the first six months of the year. A report from IHS Markit claims that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus respectively are the world’s largest selling smartphones for the first half of the year. Though no exact shipment figures were provided, Samsung had two phones in the top five with the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus taking third place.

Joe Belfiore says Windows Phone not a focus for Microsoft

For the first time, a Microsoft executive has openly admitted that the company has no plans for Windows 10 Mobile. Over the weekend, Corporate Vice President in the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, Joe Belfiore said that building new features for Windows Phone and launching new handsets are no longer a "focus" for the company.

Belfiore said Microsoft attempted to fix one of the biggest factors crippling the growth of Windows Phone, namely the unavailability of several popular apps, but its attempts never materialised.
"We have tried VERY HARD to incent app devs. Paid money.. wrote apps 4 them.. but volume of users is too low for most companies to invest. " Belfiore tweeted.
Microsoft ended support for Windows Phone 8.1, the most popular version of its mobile operating system in July. Belfiore in another tweet insisted that the company will continue to support the platform by releasing bug fixes and security updates.

Reliance Jio's Latest Recharge Offer On Rs 149 Plan Vs Rs 309 Vs Rs 349 Vs Rs 399

{Click Hare To For All Jio News}

Reliance Jio's Rs 149 recharge pack, which provides 2 GB of 4G data for a validity of 28 days, will now provide unlimited access to internet to its customers.

Reliance Jio, which is known for its aggressive data and voice plans, has now got another positive surprise for its customers. Its Rs 149 recharge pack, which provides 2 GB of 4G data for a validity of 28 days, will now provide unlimited access to internet to its customers. In the earlier Rs 149 recharge plan, once you consume the 2 GB data limit within the 28-day limit, your internet access used to stop unless you recharge with a top-up voucher. However, in the revised Rs 149 plan your internet access won't stop even after you consume the 2 GB data limit within the 28-day limit.

In the revised Rs 149 plan, after you consume the 2 GB data limit within 28 days, your internet speed will drop to 64 kbps, but you can continue to have internet access for the remaining days of your 28-day validity. Along with unlimited internet access, Jio's Rs 149 plan also provides unlimited voice calls (both local and STD). However, the post FUP (Fair Usage Policy) limit of 64 kbps in the Rs 149 plan is half of the speed provided in Jio's other plans like Rs 96, Rs 309, Rs 349, Rs 399 and Rs 509. Other plans of Reiance Jio provide a data speed of 128kbps post the FUP limit. Under Fair Usage policy, internet speed is reduced after the plan limit but internet access continues with reduced speed.

Here is what you get in other recharge plans of Jio:

Jio Rs. 309 recharge plan:

Jio is offering 56 GB of 4G data in a recharge pack of Rs. 309 with a validity of 56 days. The 56 GB data can be used at a daily limit of 1 GB as per the telecom company's Fair Usage Policy (FUP), according to the Jio website. Jio prepaid customers exhausting the limit of 1 GB in a day will be able to use the mobile data at a speed of 128 kbps, Jio added. Jio's Rs. 309 recharge pack includes unlimited local, STD and roaming SMS.

Jio Rs. 349 recharge plan

Reliance Jio's recharge pack of Rs. 349 includes 4G speed data of 20 GB data with a validity of 56 days. There is no daily limit on data consumption in Jio's Rs. 349 plan. That means one can consume the entire 20 GBs data even in one day.

Jio Rs. 399 recharge plan

Jio's recharge pack priced at Rs. 399 comes with 84 GB of data with a validity of 84 days. 4G speed data under the Rs. 399 pack comes with a daily limit of 1 GB. Data usage beyond the daily limit comes at a speed of 128 kbps, Jio said on its portal.

Mumbai: Efforts are still on to extinguish the fire that broke out at a fuel tank farm of the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) located on the Butcher Island off the east coast of Mumbai last evening, a top fire brigade official said here today.

Mumbai: Efforts are still on to extinguish the fire that broke out at a fuel tank farm of the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) located on the Butcher Islandoff the east coast of Mumbai last evening, a top fire brigade official said here today.

The firefighters had brought the blaze under control, but "excessive heat" led to reignition at the tank around 4.30 am today, the official said.

According to officials, the fire had broken out around 5 pm yesterday when Mumbai and the surrounding areas witnessed thundershowers. However, no causality was reported.

"Excessive heat caused reignition around 4.30 am today. Firefighting as well as the cooling operations are on. Foam and other extinguishing agents are being used for the purpose," Mumbai fire brigade chief PS Rahangdale said.

He said firefighters of MbPT as well as the fire brigade team are working in tandem to douse the blaze.

According to Mr Rahangdale, fire brigade personnel involved in the firefighting operation through the night have been relieved and new staff staff have been deployed there.

"There has been a good coordination between Mumbai fire brigade personnel and the MbPT fire service team. The fire brigade team had reached around 10 feet near the blaze-hit tank, but reignition at dawn has posed a new challenge before us. However, the blaze is under control," he said.

"I am monitoring the operation. Because of the heat, the foam (used as an extinguisher) is not settling down, this is causing reignition. But overall, the situation is under control," Mr Rahangdale said but did not specify how long the firefighting operation would continue.

"Our main challenge is to keep the other tanks near the affected one safe. So, on one hand our firemen are involved in cooling operations to keep other tanks safe, while on the other, they are also engaged in dousing the flames," he told PTI.

Butcher Island houses a marine oil terminal of MbPT.

Oil tankers discharge crude at the terminal, and it is transported to refineries at nearby Mahul through submerged pipelines, port officials said.

After the fire broke out, vessels in the vicinity of the island have been moved to a distance as a precautionary measure.

A BPCL spokesperson had said yesterday that a lightning strike amid thundershowers was the apparent cause behind the fire. "A diesel tank caught fire due to the lightning and thundershowers," he had said.

Manohar Rao, executive director and head of safety, BPCL, had said that prima facie, the cause of the fire was lightning, though further probe will be carried out on Saturday.

Jal Satyagraha to nude protest against AFSPA: Five extreme forms of agitations that shook everyone

( Click Here To latest aaps news join our facebook gruop )

Unique forms of discomfort-inducing protest acts have been taken up in some cases to give more power and visibility to their expression.

Organic and dynamic, protests have often provided outlet for the relatively dispossessed or the disadvantaged subaltern relegated to the back burners of state conscience. Modern India has a long history of protests to power, starting with the pan-India Gandhian Satyagrahas to demand a nation free of the yolk of British raj. In the absence or failure of other avenues of redressal, peaceful protests call attention to urgent grievances, legitimise demands publicly and are a collective manifestation of freedom of expression. Unique forms of discomfort-inducing protest acts have been taken up in some cases to give more power and visibility to their expression. Here are five examples, recent and old:

‘Zameen Samadhi Satyagraha’ at Nindar village, near Jaipur:Currently protesting against the Jaipur Development Authority’s (JDA) move to acquire their land (1,350 bighas) for a housing project, about 50 farmers have dug out holes and buried themselves neck deep in the ground. The protesters include older women. JDA’s land acquisition project was initiated a fortnight ago, which led to the farmers sitting on a dharna for 15 days which did not yield result. Thus this new form of Satyagraha has been initiated to make a stronger statement.
Tamil Nadu farmers’ protest near Jantar Mantar, New Delhi: Heavily debt ridden and drought struck farmers from Tamil Nadu, almost 100 in number, have been in the news for a while for their repeated protests at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. They allege that they are incapable to growing crops under the present weather conditions and have been demanding loan waivers, revised drought packages and a Cauvery Management committee and fair prices for their products. In a desperate bid for government attention to their demands, many extreme and unconventional acts have been employed by them, such as biting mice, holding skulls and bones (allegedly of their peers who committed suicide) and threats of consuming their own excreta and urine.

‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Goghalgaon village in Khandwa district, MP:Led by the Narmada Bachao Aandolan, around 50 villagers — men and women — residing in the low lying regions of the Omkareshwar dam on Narmada river near Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, sat in neck-deep river water for seventeen days in September 2012, demanding compensation and rehabilitation from the government as it gave orders to lift the dam gates. Faced by the prospect of flooded homes and shattered livelihoods, the ‘satyagrahis’ were bitten by fishes and developed several skin ailments in this period.

The protest was called off after the government agreed to their demands. A relief package of 212 crores was cleared for them in May 2013. A similar protest was undertaken in 2013 by other villagers in Khandwa, Dewas and Harda districts of MP, whose settlements lay in the low lying areas of the Indira Sagar Dam.

Manipuri women’s nude protest against AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act): “We are all Manorama’s mothers,” screamed the 12 Manipuri women as they took off their sarongs and stood stark naked in front of Kangla Fort in Imphal, the then headquarters of the Assam Rifles. They came from low-income families — mostly residing outside the capital. The oldest protester was 73, and the youngest, 45. They carried banners: “Indian Army, rape us”, “Indian Army, kill us” (army being a loosely used term).

32-year old Thangjam Manorama had been picked up from her house under suspicion of militancy by paramilitary Assam Rifles soldiers on July 11, 2014. Her mutilated body, raped and ridden with bullets, was found later and heavily militarised Manipur fired into unprecedented anger. The idea of a nude protest was first discussed on July 12, 2004 at a meeting of the All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation and Development Samaj, but agreed upon only later when the women agreed that ‘desperate times called for desperate measures’. The idea made them deeply uncomfortable and, fearful of their life and honor, many did not even inform their families of what they were about to do.
The protest lasted only 45 minutes but left an indelible mark — jolting the nation and world with Manipuri mothers’ anger and anguish. The protesters didn’t have it easy in the aftermath; the community immediately celebrated them but they were harassed by an embarrassed government, accused of arson and waging war against the nation and nine of them spent three months in jail. Four months after the protest, Assam Rifles vacated the Kangla Fort which they had occupied since 1949 and AFSPA was lifted from a few areas in Imphal.

However, Manorama’s killers have not been brought to justice yet and AFSPA still looms heavy in large parts of the state.

Chipko Movement against deforestation in Uttarakhand: A global pioneer, the Chipko movement of saving trees by hugging them began as an organised resistance against deforestation and logging abuse, undertaken by the native communities, often women and children, in 1973. The first Chipko action took place spontaneously in April 1973 in the village of Mandal in the upper Alakananda valley of erstwhile Uttar Pradesh where the tribal women went into the fobrest and formed a protective circle around it. Over the next five years, the movement spread to many other districts of Garhwal, out of which the pioneering tree-hugging action led by Gaura Devi in her village, Reni, is well known.

The sustained success of the movement, gaining momentum under leaders like the gandhian eco-activist Sunderlal Bahuguna, not only saved thousands of trees from being felled but also influenced a younger India’s natural resource policy. The activist movement catalysed the instating of a 15-year ban on felling by the Indira Gandhigovernment in 1980 which was implemented in not only Uttar Pradesh but also other states with forest covers.
