NDIA AA No other project in the world has faced so many hurdles: PM Modi

( Click Here To latest aaps news join our facebook gruop )

DABHOI (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river, saying no other project in the world has faced so many hurdles as this "engineering miracle" which many people had "conspired to stop".

"No other project in the world has faced such hurdles as the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river. But we were determined to complete the project," Modi said here.

Addressing a rally some 55 kms from the dam site in Dabhoi town of Vadodara district, the Prime Minister said "Sardar Sarovar will become a symbol of India's new and emerging power and propel growth in the region ... the project is an engineering miracle."

Modi, who had earlier dedicated the dam to the nation on his 67th birthday, said "many false allegations were hurled on us. Many people conspired to stop this project. But we were determined not to make it a political battle."

"I have knowledge ('kacha chittha') of everyone who tried to stall this project, but I will not name them as I do not want to go on that route," Modi said.

"A massive misinformation campaign was launched against the project. The World Bank which had earlier agreed to fund the project, refused to give loan for it raising environmental concerns. But, with or without the World Bank, we completed the massive project on our own," he said.

Modi said the construction of this dam was an engineering marvel and every engineering student should study it.

Noting that shortage of water was a major factor in slowing the pace of development, Modi said the project will also help take water from the dam to the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat to fulfil the water needs of BSF soldiers, besides benefitting states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

He said he was delighted to dedicate the dam to the nation on his birthday and thanked the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Maharashtra's Devendra Fadnavis and Rajasthan's Vasundhara Raje Scindia.

Paying tributes to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and B R Ambedkar, Modi said had the two leaders lived longer, the dam would have been completed in the 60s and 70s itself, boosting the economy and combating the problems of drought and floods.

Nearly 56 years after its foundation was laid, the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which was mired in controversies and faced stiff opposition from affected villagers, became a reality today after Modi unveiled the plaque to launch it.

Earlier, the prime minister had performed a puja at the site in Kevadia area of the Narmada district.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

CBI court begins hearing in two murder cases against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Panchkula

(Click Here To latest aaps news join our Whatsapp)

Chandigarh:The hearing in two separate murder cases against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and others began in Chandigarh on Saturday in a special CBI court amid tight security.

While seven accused in the murder cases were present in the court in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, the jailed sect cheif took part in the hearing through video conferencing from the District Jail in Sunaria near Rohtak.
Singh has been lodged in the Rohtak jail following his conviction in August in two rape cases.

Tight security arrangements, including para-military forces and Haryana Police personnel, were seen in Panchkula town, especially around the court complex in Sector 1.

Security arrangements were tightened around the prison complex near Rohtak and in Sirsa district, where the headquarters of the sect are located.
The cases, related to the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, allegedly by functionaries and followers of the sect were listed for final arguments on Saturday in the court of special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh.
Final arguments in the murder case of journalist Chhatrapati are being held on Saturday.
The same court had, on 25 August, convicted Ram Rahim on two counts of rape of his female disciples. He was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the CBI court on 28 August.
Haryana Director General of Police BS Sandhu had said on Friday that adequate paramilitary and Haryana Police personnel had been stationed in Panchkula in view of the murder case hearing.

However, this time, no Dera followers assembled in Panchkula ahead of Saturday's hearing, unlike the rape case hearing where over one lakh followers had converged in the town and had indulged in large-scale violence after his conviction.
Chhatrapati was shot at in October 2002. He died in November, after battling for life in a hospital for a few days.

Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, who was believed to be privy to a number of wrong things going on inside the sect headquarters, was shot dead in July 2003.
The sect chief is an accused in both murder cases, along with other accused, as these were carried out allegedly at his behest.
Ram Rahim's conviction in August in the rape cases led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, leaving 38 people dead and 264 injured. Isolated incidents of violence were also reported from Delhi and several other places in Punjab.

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Friday sought the Centre's response on a plea seeking a ban on the online Blue Whale game that has been blamed for a number of deaths of young people.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud sought the government's response and asked the petitioner advocate, CR Jaya Sukin, to serve a copy of his petition on Attorney General KK Venugopal.
The petitioner has sought that an awareness should be created about the fatal consequences of the Blue Whale game.
The Blue Whale Challenge, reportedly created by a former convict in Russia, is said to psychologically provoke players to indulge in daring, self-destructive tasks for 50 days before finally taking the "winning" step of killing themselves.

Petrol, diesel prices in India higher than most countries: Why govt taxes are extortionist in nature

(Click Here To latest aaps news join our Whatsapp)

High petrol and diesel prices are once again in the news. And the reason for this is the high taxes on these fuels, rather than the international crude oil prices. Even as the public anger is palpable on the social media and other forums, there is no indication from the government of its willingness to reduce these taxes.

The Times of India has written a hard-hitting editorial on Friday (15 September) on why the government should lower the oil taxes. “International crude oil prices may have halved since the Narendra Modi government assumed office, but it has made practically no difference to the consumer. This anomalous situation encapsulates a misguided taxation policy that has treated the oil sector as government’s cash cow,” it has said.
Just two days ago, various newspapers reported that petrol and diesel prices have risen to their highest level in three years. In Mumbai, for example, the capital of a BJP-Shiv Sena governed state, the petrol price was the highest in the country – on Tuesday (12 September), it had inched up to Rs 79.48 per litre.

Not that this price rise happened overnight. Ever since the Narendra Modi government introduced the daily price revision system of the petroleum products (from mid-June this year) to avoid sudden spikes in prices that caused popular revulsion, cost to the consumer has been going up on a daily basis, albeit in small measure. For example, between 1 July and 12 September, the price of petrol for the common man went up by Rs 5.18 per litre. Similar has been the hike in the diesel prices in Maharashtra. It now costs Rs 62.37 per litre in Mumbai.
The residents of Delhi are a shade luckier, for they have to fork out a little less for both petrol and diesel: Rs 70.38 per litre for petrol and Rs 58.72 per litre for diesel (on 12 September). This difference is there because though the excise duty levied by the central government is the same in case of both Maharashtra and Delhi, the value added tax (VAT) charged by the Delhi government is comparatively less than that by the Maharashtra government. Nevertheless the prices of petroleum products in Delhi have correspondingly gone up considerably in the last year due to the massive increase in the central excise duty in this period.
During his electoral campaign in 2014, Modi had promised to bring acche din for people of India if he was elected to power. People voted for him; the ‘good’ tidings that have come their way are the exorbitant taxes that the people are forced to pay for their basic needs.
->(Click Here To For More bollywood News)
Take the petroleum prices: when Modi was attacking the erstwhile Manmohan Singh government for bringing misery to the people in April 2014, the taxes on petrol stood at 34 percent and taxes on diesel were barely 21.5 per cent. But in July 2017, taxes on petrol account for 58 percent and those on diesel have breached 50 percent.
How do India’s oil prices compare with that of the US or other western nations? In the US, where the per capita income hovers around $60,000 (in purchasing power parity terms), the average price of the petrol (gasoline, as they call it) is $0.70 dollar per litre (on 11 September). One can find in most developed western nations the price of the petroleum products at the similar level.
But then one can argue that rich capitalist nations can afford to keep the petroleum prices low.
Then let us take the case of China, a country that we aspire to compete with and beat economically. The per capita income (again in PPP terms) in China is slightly above $15,000 dollars; it sells petroleum products to its citizens at an average price of 6.5 Chinese yuan (1 Chinese yuan equals 0.15 US dollar). That works out to less than a dollar per litre.

But take the case of India. Our per capita income, taking purchasing power parity into consideration, is a little above $6,000. But our government sells petroleum products to its citizens at a price of $1.25 (Rs 80 at the current exchange rate).
What does it suggest? The clear conclusion is that ours is an extortionist government. It has no parallel in the advanced nations; it has also no parallel among the emerging nations.

Our government even turns out to be the worst among the poor south Asian nations. Take the case of Pakistan which many of our ‘hyper-nationalists’ deride as a basket case. There too, the government is more considerate to its citizens than ours. Pakistan, whose per capita income is around $5,500 (less than that of India) sells petrol to its citizens at 71 Pakistani rupees, which works out to just $0.67.
Compare this ‘basket case’ with our country which is supposed to be an example of a ‘growth miracle’ nation: our government, though we are a richer nation than Pakistan, imposes almost twice the taxes than what the Pakistani government imposes on its citizens.
It is not as if Pakistan’s is an exceptional case. Consider the case of Sri Lanka, Nepal or Bangladesh, our government’s extortion has no match in any other country.
The TOI editorial makes this point squarely: “All our neighbours, particularly Pakistan, pass on more benefits to consumers of petrol and diesel. This places Pakistan’s economy on a relatively more competitive footing than India’s, perhaps even countervailing its ‘Jihad’ handicap.”
What is the bottom line? That the Indian government imposes a heavier burden on its citizens compared to that of other countries, whether they are richer or poorer nations than India.

CPI-Maoist says it had no hand in killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh

( Click Here To latest aaps news join our facebook gruop )

The outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has denied it had any role in the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh outside her house in Bengaluru and said it was the act of “Brahmanical Hindu-fascist goons of Sangh Parivar led by Mohan Bhagwat”

In a statement dated September 9 that reached media on Thursday, its central committee spokesperson Abhay said Lankesh’s murder was not only a blatant attack on free speech and freedom of the press but an assault on all revolutionary, democratic, progressive, secular, and rational dissenting voices of the country.

The 55-year old editor of Kannada weekly Gauri Lankesh Patrike was a fierce critic of Hindu extremism and her death on September 5 triggered speculation that people connected to right-wing organisations may be behind her killing.
The Karnataka government has formed a special investigation team, headed by inspector general of police (intelligence) BK Singh, to probe the gunning down of Lankesh that triggered outrage and protests across the country. The investigators looking for the killers of Gauri Lankesh are yet to find any conclusive leads.

Abhay said the party rejected and condemned the patently false insinuation made by some leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suggesting the Maoists might be behind this murder.

aapkasamacha. Com

“This is nothing but a futile attempt to divert the growing mass anger against the Sangh Parivar,” he said.
He added apart from silencing one of its most vocal critics, the Hindutva-fascists wanted to send out a clear warning through the murder of Lankesh that anyone who dared to put up a real opposition to the fascist juggernaut of “Narendra Modi-Amit Shah-Bhagwat ruling clique” would meet a similar fate.

“The Hindutva-fascists may kill some of us, jail many of us, and scare a larger number into silence temporarily. But they certainly cannot suppress the people forever and turn the wheels of history backwards. They will certainly be thrown into the dustbin of history by the masses who alone are the makers of history,” Abhay said.

He said his party has called upon the oppressed classes and the people of the country, including religious and national minorities, Dalits, Adivasis, intellectuals, and journalists to strongly protest Lankesh’s murder to demand prompt and stringent punishment of the perpetrators and to intensify the united countrywide people’s movement against aapkasamacha fascism.
