Forensic lab to tell cops how to handle Blue Whale Challenge

(Click Here To latest aaps news join our Whatsapp)

MUMBAI: Even as the Blue Whale Challenge continues to make headlines, the directorate of forensic science laboratories (DFSL) in Kalina is preparing guidelines for the police on how to identify whether a case of suicide is a result of the online game or not. On July 30, a teenaged school goer had jumped to his death from the terrace of his Andheri east building, sparking off speculations that he may have fallen prey to the online suicide game. But the police could find no conclusive proof of the boy having played the game at all.

The Blue Whale Challenge has spawned several duplicates and it may not be possible to block them all. "Police station personnel are not aware of what the game is about. The guidelines will make them familiar about the 50 tasks to be performed that end with suicide. While probing a case of suicide, the investigator will first have to ascertain whether the victim was involved in these tasks (such as cutting and poking himself with sharp objects) from the nature of injuries suffered. Then, the investigator needs to probe if the victim had been waking up very early as certain tasks have to be performed before daybreak," said a senior official with the DFSL. The investigator would have to look out for tattoos or images carved on the body (the most common image carved would be that of a whale).

"The police need to contact the victim's internet service provider and go through his web history to look for suspicious links. This needs to be done as the victim would have erased the web history on his phone browser in most cases. It's key to find out how many social media accounts did the victim operate, where and what did he use them for," said the official. The game used to be played on a popular Russian social networking site. Survivors of the Blue Whale Challenge have told investigators abroad that they had clicked on the link to a scary picture, which led them to another such picture and finally to a group where tasks for the game were given out. Net users have been trying to reach out to the curator of the game using hashtags on Twitter. Searching for the game has led children to the dark web where curators operate, officials said. It's also important to check if the victim operated an online payment account or operated an e-wallet and whether money was transferred to a suspicious entity.

DFSL officials are also planning to contact Kerala police where a suicide case, suspected to be a result of Blue Whale Challenge, has been reported. Forensic officials are seeking information on what have investigators from Kerala found on the victim's gadgets and social media accounts. Maharashtra's cyber police have been engaged in prevention as well as creating awareness.

"It's a primary responsibility of parents first and then of schools to find out if the child is engaged in self harming behaviour. Families need to have a frank discussion with kids. Parents need to check what the child does online, how many social media accounts does he operate and whom does he speak to. Parents also need to be touch with the child's peers as they would be aware if the child has been hurting himself," said special Inspector General of police, cybercrime, Brijesh Singh. "Schools should encourage students to report such cases assuring confidentiality."

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered Baba Ramdevs Patanjali Ayurved Ltd to stop airing advertisements to promote its brand of Chyawanprash, after its rival brand Dabur said the commercials disparaged its product.

In an interim order, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar restrained ayurvedic firm Patanjali from airing, telecasting and circulating the advertisements in any manner till 26 September, the next date of hearing.
"We are prima facie satisfied that an interim protection is necessary in the matter," it said.
The bench also issued notice to Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and sought their stand on the plea filed by Dabur India Ltd, which claims to be the largest manufacturer of ayurvedic medicine and natural consumer products.
The bench also issued notice to Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and sought their stand on the plea filed by Dabur India Ltd, which claims to be the largest manufacturer of ayurvedic medicine and natural consumer products.
Dabur India moved the larger bench against the 1 September order of a single judge bench refusing its plea that Patanjali be restrained from airing the commercials.
Challenging the interim order, Dabur alleged that the single judge had failed to appreciate that the "illegal trade activity" of Patanjali was causing irreparable and incalculable loss to it.
It said that Patanjalis "trade dress and packaging" in the advertisements were too similar to Daburs and any illiterate and semi-literate customer can easily be fooled.
The complaint was about an advertisement on social media in which a bottle with a blurred trademark and name was shown.
Dabur submitted that the "trade dress/packaging" for its product had acquired distinctiveness as the consumer at large, particularly those who may not be literate, may recall the features of the "Dabur Chyawanprash".

"The trade dress and the overall get up of Dabur Chyawanprash packaging on account of acquired distinctiveness, constitutes a trademark within the meaning of the Trademarks Act 1999 and thus it ought to be protected and prevented against the dilution, misuse, misappropriation and acts of infringement," Dabur said in its plea.
It said it had recently learnt that Patanjali has launched an advertisement campaign to promote its product "Patanjali Chyawanprash".
"The impugned advertisement was uploaded on Facebook page of Patanjali products on 24 August, 2017 and on the Youtube channel of the Patanjali on 25 August, 2017," the plea said, adding that they feared that this advertisement may be aired and circulated by the respondent on television soon.

The victim, a 22-year-old Nagpur resident, was interning with an IT firm in suburban Mumbai and had recently come to the city after bagging her engineering degree. She is the daughter of an Assistant Police Inspector (API) with the Nagpur Police.

THE THANE POLICE have arrested two youths for allegedly raping and murdering the daughter of an Assistant Police Inspector (API) with the Nagpur Police. The complainant, who allegedly helped the accused in disposing of the body, has also been arrested. The victim, a 22-year-old Nagpur resident, was interning with an IT firm in suburban Mumbai and had recently come to the city after bagging her engineering degree.

According to the police, the victim was acquainted with one of the accused, Niklesh Patil, who also hails from Nagpur and the two had studied engineering together.
On Sunday, Patil along with his friend, Nilesh Khobragade, drove down from Nagpur to Pune in latter’s car and met the victim in Pune. They decided to drop the victim in Mumbai where she had been living for the past two months. However, in the night, they decided to halt at the co-accused, Akshay Valode’s Ambernath residence on the outskirts of Mumbai, police added.

Patil and Valode allegedly took turns in raping the victim and later murdered her when she threatened to complain to the police. The accused then stuffed her body in a suitcase, said police. At the time of the crime, Khobragade wasn’t in his Ambernath home. Upon his return, the two accused allegedly insisted on leaving for Goa. After reaching Belagavi, Patil and Valode dumped the suitcase in a drain line. When confronted by Khobragade, the duo confessed to have raped and murdered the victim.

The trio then surrendered before the Ratnagiri police and a zero complaint case was registered on the statement given by Khobragade. The case has now been transferred to the Thane police.

The two accused have been booked under section 376 (2)(g) (gang rape), 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence), and 34 (common intention) of IPC, while Khobragade in whose car the woman’s body was transported has been booked for disposing the body.

“All the three accused have been arrested and handed over to the Thane police where the alleged offence took place. While Patil and Valode have been arrested for gangrape and murder, Khobragade has been arrested for destruction of evidence,” said SP, Ratnagiri, Pranay Ashok.

WhatsApp for Businesses Officially Announced With Plans to Monetise in the Future

( Click Here To latest aaps news join our facebook gruop )

Facebook is gearing up to make money from WhatsApp, the messaging service used by more than a billion people every day

WhatsApp will be testing new features to make it easier for people to communicate with businesses they want to reach on WhatsApp, the messaging service said in a blog post.
"We're building and testing new tools via a free WhatsApp Business app for small companies and an enterprise solution for bigger companies operating at a large scale with a global base of customers, like airlines, e-commerce sites, and banks," according to the blog post.
WhatsApp has already started a pilot program that would feature a green badge next to a business contact, indicating that the business was verified by the messaging service.
"We do intend on charging businesses in the future," Chief Operating Officer Matt Idema told the Wall Street Journal in an interview.
Reuters had reported in March that a potential revenue source for WhatsApp was to charge businesses that want to contact customers, citing company documents.
Started in 2009, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for an eye-popping $22 billion in 2014. While WhatsApp had little revenue at the time of the deal, the purchase price was slightly more than the market value of Sony Corp.
Facebook has not focused on WhatsApp so far. The social network had started showing ads inside its Messenger app in July to further monetise the chat service.
Idema declined to describe the paid features or say when they would make their debut, according to the WSJ report. "We don't have the details of monetisation figured out," he told the Journal.
" We'll be listening carefully to feedback during our test phase and keeping people informed as we make these tools more widely available," WhatsApp said in the blog post.

Eyes on property, girl plotted father's murder with FB friend

(Click Here To latest aaps news join our Whatsapp)

MEERUT: Three days after a man was found murdered in his sleep at the Mohiuddinpur area, 10 km from the city, Meerut police on Monday zeroed in on his 23-year-old daughter as the primary accused, who had connived with a friend on Facebook to murder her father with an aim to secure share in the family property.

According to police sources, the woman, identified only as Shikha, got her friend Himanshu Siwach, who she had met on the social media platform, to plan the crime. Siwach, along with two other unidentified men, shot the girl's father Manoj Kumar, 43, in his sleep on Friday morning.

Police had initially booked two of Kumar's cousins due to an ongoing enmity between them. Kumar's uncle was gunned down following a property dispute in Bulandshahr district three years ago.

"Due to a personal dispute between the brothers, our first suspects were Kumar's cousins," said Brijesh Singh, station house officer (SHO), Partapur police station.

Further investigations and phone surveillance records later revealed that Shikha had asked Siwach to eliminate her father.

"The deceased man's daughter wanted a share in the family property and got Siwach to commit the crime," said superintendent of police (SP), city, Maan Singh Chauhan.

Police also informed that Shikha, a B Com student, showed no emotion during the probe. "It was alleged that Kumar had an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law and his daughter was against it," informed SP Chauhan.

According to family sources, Kumar had three children with his sister-in-law and Shikha was against sharing a 400 bigha land with them.

"Father used to ignore my mother and he had an affair with my aunt. I could not tolerate this. I have no regrets," said Shikha, with a stoic expression on her face.
