The offer is only for customers moving to Vodafone RED

The new plan offers 30GB data and unlimited voice calls for a month

It comes with device insurance, Magzter subscription, and Vodafone Play

Taking on Jio and AirtelVodafone is offering 30GB data and various other freebies at Rs. 399 to select customers. The Vodafone RED postpaid plan available at Rs. 399 offers benefits such as unlimited local and STD calls, free national roaming, 100 SMSes, and 30GB 3G/ 4G monthly data (with rollover option up to 200GB) to Vodafone customers moving from prepaid to postpaid as well as to customers switching from other networks. Just like other plans and packs, the unlimited local and STD calls with the new Rs. 399 Vodafone RED plan are capped at 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. The plan also includes Vodafone RED Shield that is a device insurance offering which is claimed to protect your smartphone from damage and theft.
Customers switching to Vodafone RED Rs. 399 plan will have to dial 199 from their mobile phone to switch to the plan. After six billing cycles, the customer will be charged Rs. 499, up from Rs. 399. Rupee trades flat at 63.55 against dollar in early session

The rupee opened lower by 5 paise at 63.60 today against the previous close of 63.55. It later recovered ground to touch a high of 63.54 before trading at 63.55 at 0945 hrs

The rupee was trading flat at 63.55 against the US dollar in early session Monday at the interbank foreign exchange market amid the greenback’s gains in overseas markets.
Forex dealers said month-end dollar demand from banks and importers and the dollar’s gain against other currencies overseas weighed on the rupee in early session but forex inflows in stocks cushioned the fall. The rupee opened lower by 5 paise at 63.60 today against the previous close of 63.55. It later recovered ground to touch a high of 63.54 before trading at 63.55 at 0945 hrs.

A record opening in the domestic equity market capped the fall, dealers said. The dollar was trading up against the Japanese yen in early session after its gains against the euro and British pound.
On Thursday, the rupee had gained 14 paise to end at a fresh one-week high of 63.55 a dollar.
Foreign investors had put in USD 137.90 million on net basis in stocks on Thursday. The forex market was closed on Friday for the ‘Republic Day’ holiday.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex spurted by 233.67 points, or 0.64 per cent, to trade at an all-time high of 36,284.11. The NSE Nifty too was quoting at new peak of 11,123.40 points.

WhatsApp stops working on BlackBerry, Windows Phone 8 and older platforms

Messaging platform WhatsApp will now be unavailable to users operating Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS as well as old Android phones.

Facebook-owned mobile messaging app WhatsApp has stopped working on smartphones that support ‘BlackBerry OS’, ‘BlackBerry 10’, ‘Windows Phone 8.0’ and older platforms in the New Year.

“These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” a spokesperson wrote in a support note on the company’s website.

“If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp,” it said. Users would be able to use WhatsApp but would not be able to create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts.

“Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,” WhatsApp said. WhatsApp would also end support for NokiaS40 after December 31, 2018 and Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020.

“As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use,” the company said. “If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone to continue using WhatsApp,” it added.

GST collection: With 24% share in cess, Maharashtra, UP top list

Karnataka is 3rd with cess collection of `3,110 cr, followed by Chhattisgarh

Comprising about 24 per cent of the total cess collections of Rs 30,224 crore under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are the top contributors among states and Union Territories in the first five months of the rollout of the GST regime.

Maharashtra garnered Rs 3,702 crore and Uttar Pradesh collected Rs 3,549 crore through cess levied on sin and luxury goods since the July 1 rollout of the new indirect tax regime, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said in reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Friday. The individual contribution of these two states is even higher than the cess collected through imports, which stands at Rs 2,604 crore.

Karnataka ranks third with cess collection of Rs 3,110 crore, followed by Chhattisgarh that raised Rs 2,288 crore as cess till November 30, the data provided by the government showed.

Maharashtra also has the highest State GST (SGST) collections of Rs 18,701 crore during July-November, the data showed. Tamil Nadu is at the second spot, having collected Rs 8,739 crore, about half of the SGST amount raised by Maharashtra.

The two manufacturing states are closely followed by Karnataka and Gujarat with SGST collections of Rs 7,736 crore and Rs 7,375 crore, respectively.

The government has garnered Rs 30,224 crore as cess from July 1-November 30, the data showed. About Rs 59,048 crore has been collected as Central GST (CGST) and Rs 87,888 crore has been collected as SGST in the first five months of the GST regime.

An amount of Rs 1.91 lakh crore has been collected as Integrated GST (IGST) till November 30. Out of the total IGST collection of Rs 1.91 lakh crore, Rs 90,038 crore has been collected through imports. The high unutilised IGST will be set off by GST taxpayers against their tax liabilities of IGST,CGST and SGST, in that order, in the coming months and is likely to result in lower collections via CGST and SGST payments, as was seen in October revenue collections.

The GST regime, which was implemented from July 1, has tax slabs of 0, 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent. Additional cess ranging from 1 to 290 per cent is levied over and above the highest tax rate of 28 per cent on sin

and luxury goods such as tobacco, cigarettes and luxury cars. The amount collected through cess flows into compensation fund, which is used to compensate states for revenue losses on account of implementation of GST.
As per Section 7 of the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017, states and Union Territories with
legislatures have to be compensated for revenue losses arising out of implementation of GST during the five-year transition period beginning from the date on which the SGST Act of the concerned state has come into force.
The GST (Compensation to the States for Loss of Revenue) Act has projected the revenue growth for states during the five-year transition period to be 14 per cent and the financial year of 2015-16 has been fixed as the base year for calculation of compensation amount, with the base year tax revenue including states’ tax revenues from state VAT, Central sales tax, entry tax, octroi, local body tax, taxes on luxuries, taxes on advertisements.
However, any revenue among these taxes related to supply of alcohol for human consumption, entertainment tax levied by the states but collected by local bodies and petroleum products not part of GST will be excluded from the base year revenue.
As per the data provided by government in Lok Sabha, 93.33 lakh taxpayers have registered under the new GST regime till October 31. Out of total 93.33 lakh registrants, 64.38 lakh taxpayers migrated from the earlier excise and VAT system, while 28.94 lakh are new registrants in the GST regime.

Idea Rivals Jio With New Rs. 398 Plan With 1GB Data Per Day, Free Roaming Calls for 70 Days

Idea’s Rs. 398 plan originally offered 35-day validityThe data benefit has been doubled with this revisionBuyers will also get seven vouchers of Rs. 51 with this pack

Idea has revised its Rs. 398 plan to offer twice the validity while keeping the calling and data benefits, seemingly only for select users.
This comes just a day after it introduced the Rs. 309 plan with 28-day validity, and two days after it debuted the Rs. 509 prepaid recharge pack
The Idea Rs. 398 plan now offers 70-day validity, instead of the previous 35 days. This plan competes with Reliance Jio Rs. 399 plan, which offers the same calling and data benefits as well as the same validity.

Idea subscribers need to check the official app to see if the plan is available to them with extended validity as the official website still mentions 35-day validity, meaning this is a personalised plan which might be available to select consumers only. Buyers will get 1GB data per day for 70 days, meaning 70GB of total data, with this prepaid pack. It provides users with bundled voice STD and local calls and 100 SMSes per day as well.
However, the original Rs. 398 plan came with free outgoing calls on roaming. The free roaming calls are not mentioned in the MyIdea app, but Gadgets 360 spoke to an Idea customer care executive who confirmed that the plan will offer free incoming and outgoing calls in all circles.

The free calls, as is the norm nowadays, are limited to 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week; exhausting this limit will entail tariff of 1 paisa per second. Also, users are not allowed to call more than 100 unique numbers in a week; in this case, the calls will be charged at 1 paisa per second.
Those who purchase the recharge pack will get seven vouchers of Rs. 51 each, which can be used while buying recharges of Rs. 300 or more over the next one year.
As mentioned above, this is the toughest challenge yet from Idea against the Rs. 399 Jio plan, which provides 1GB data per day as well as free calls and SMSes for 70 days, along with access to Jio apps.

WhatsApp Verified Profiles: Business Account Features Detailed in New FAQ

New FAQ listing shows WhatsApp Business app is in developmentWhatsApp earlier said to extend its app for businessesThe WhatsApp Business will have a redesigned app icon

WhatsApp seems set to launch a standalone app for businesses, which will feature both verified and non-verified profiles. In a new FAQ published on its website, WhatsApp has detailed the Business accounts, including key features and how to distinguish between verified and non-verified profiles.

In Asia, organisations have been using WhatsApp as an informal means of coordinating with their clients and customers for the past few years due to the massive popularity of the app. Earlier this year, the Android beta version got the Verified Profiles feature that allowed businesses (with accounts featuring a tick mark as a sign of authentication) to communicate with users.

The Facebook-owned company says in the FAQ, "While chatting with businesses, you can check your contact's profile to see which type of account they're using. A verified account has a green checkmark badge in its profile." It adds, "A business account with a grey question mark badge in its profile means the account is using the WhatsApp Business app but hasn't been confirmed nor verified by WhatsApp

The much talked-about Business app is currently being tested by a private group of testers and the company will introduce it as WhatsApp Business - a standalone app.

Its description available on Play Store read: "As a test partner for 'WhatsApp Business', you have early access to a wide range of new features that we've built with you in mind. As you experiment with what this new app has to offer, please share your experiences with us so that we can improve the product."
WhatsApp Business is different from the regular WhatsApp. The logo of the app has been changed from the calling symbol to 'B' inside the green conversation bubble. However, after downloading, the app looks the same as WhatsApp, barring the title bar that says WhatsApp Business. The app has interesting features such as auto responses, creating a business profile, chat migration, and analytics.
"We also provide you with the tools you need to control your experience with businesses. You can block business accounts and report them as spam at any time, right within the chat," WhatsApp said in the new FAQ.
Before launching the standalone Business app, the new FAQ, first spotted by the fan website WABetaInfo, aims to clear doubts so that no such fake app gets downloaded.

Long after Jio, 100 million BSNL customers are finally getting 4G LTE in January

Ever since Jio's entry into the Indian telecom sector, it feels like we are living in a different world. High-speed mobile internet, which was a luxury, has become a basic necessity for millions of smartphone users across the country.

With affordable rates on 4G data and attractive bundles, Reliance Jio became the world's fastest growing technology company, and it has added millions of users in a remarkable growth. But the competition Jio imposed fast-tracked India's 4G adoption like never before. Incumbents joined the race by offering competitive voice and 4G data bundles, but the state-run telecom operator BSNL lagged behind with its 3G network.
Smartphones without 4G these days are looked down upon, and if a network doesn't support the bandwidth, it gets treated the same way. But BSNL isn't the one to remain in the shadows for long.
BSNL confirmed that it is going to launch 4G LTE services for its 100 million subscribers starting January next year.
We have a different strategy for 4G like one is to utilize Wi-Fi route of 4G and for that we have already installed 15000 Wi-Fi hotspots which are 4G enabled and second is to go classical route like LTE which we will begin in January," Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman, and Managing Director, BSNL, told Gizbot in an exclusive interview published on Thursday.
Shrivastava also revealed that Nokia and ZTE are installing 4G equipment starting from the West and South Zone and then in North and East Zone. The telco also wants to expand its network of Wi-Fi hotspots to 100,000 over the next two years.
Despite lacking 4G support, BSNL has managed to stay in the game by offering free voice call and affordable 3G bundles. The telco is already offering 4G phones such as Bharat 1 bundled with offers like unlimited voice and data for Rs. 97 per month. We reviewed the handset recently and found it quite a competition to the lauded JioPhone.
Furthermore, BSNL is planning to partner with other OEMs to offer similar bundles with third-party hardware, and it's already in talks with Lava, Shrivastava added.

According to Adobe Digital Insights mobile transactions were "hitting record highs".

Black Friday follows Thanksgiving Day that is observed on the fourth Thursday of November, heralding the Christmas shopping season.

"The big story this holiday season is in mobile shopping," CNBC reported, quoting Mickey Mericle, Vice president of Adobe's Marketing and Customer Insights division.

According to Adobe Insights, 61.1 per cent of shoppers' visits to retailers' websites were for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.

A report in The Financial Times said the holiday season was set to be the first in which more shopping will happen online than in stores.

"Brands and retailers will offer an array of great deals on electronic devices. Those that we expect to lure consumers the most will be headphones, tablets, fitness bands, smartphones and TVs. We also expect smartwatches, VPA-enabled speakers and smart headphones to fuel demand," Annette Zimmermann, Research Vice President at Gartner for Black Friday, said in a statement.

For several years now, Black Friday has become a driver of sales in Europe, both in online and offline commerce.

"We see this trend in many European countries, including the UK, Germany, France and Italy, where Black Friday and Cyber Week have become well-known terms for shoppers," Zimmermann added.

Gartner expects sales of smartphones to total 1.57 billion units in 2017, up 4.9 per cent from 2016.

“Over the last 5 years we have been committed to providing flawless & secure browsing experience to our consumers in India and with 100 million monthly active users, we are taking rapid strides forward.
