A 22-year-old domestic help working at an IAS officer’s house in R K Puram allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan inside the servants quarters on Friday afternoon. According to police, the woman’s brother found her body.
Police said there were no signs of external injuries but they are waiting for the post-mortem report. No suicide note was found, police said. According to police, the woman has been identified as Aradhana, who lived with her mother and elder brother. The family hails from UP’s Rae Bareli and had shifted to the capital around two years ago. “Aradhana was working at the IAS officer’s house in Nivedita Kunj, Sector 10, R K Puram. She had been ill for the past three-four days,” said a police officer familiar with the case.
DCP (south) Ishwar Singh confirmed the incident, and said, “The incident took place on Friday afternoon. We have initiated an inquest proceeding into the matter under Section 174 of CrPC as her family members have not shown any suspicion on anyone.”
On the day of the incident, Aradhana reportedly asked her brother to lock the main door to the quarters as she wanted to get some rest. Her brother left to complete some errands and returned 10 minutes later. “He opened the main door and found her dead. She did not leave a suicide note. The family did not make a PCR call and instead came straight to R K Puram police station to report the matter. We took down their statement and sent a team to look into the matter,” an officer said.
